better mpg after alternator change?

my alternator died last week so fitted a new one. Ever since my mpg has increased on my trip. It feels like I'm using less fuel is this possible?

i assume you disconnected the battery ? It's more likely the ecu reset from the loss of power that's reset the trims potentially making her more frugal if legacy codes were present causing issues or preventing adaptions
