Battery light on

Hi guys new to this group I have a Audi A4 avant b6 pd130 I change the clutch and ended up putting the earth and live on wrong way round and it blew the alternator changed that now battery light is on and not sure if battery is charging dose anyone got eny advice be much appreciated

Do you have a multimeter? When the engine is off the voltage should be between 12 and 13v depending on age/condition, when running you should see well over 13v over the battery, I’d guess this may not be the case if the light is on. Not sure on the PD130 but some alternators also have a smaller wire alongside the main positive which triggers the battery light.
