battery disconnect ?

This applies to many Audis but..... about to replace battery in an A4.
I've read somewhere that if you connect a 12v supply to the ciggy lighter it maintains 12v through the car as that socket is permanently live thereby keeping radio codes, computer etc etc etc happy !
Is this correct?
 
You could also just clip a battery charger onto the battery leads.

Either way, you'll need to make sure the live lead doesnt touch the bodyshell or any other metal parts around there, or you'll short out your power source.
 
Yes, I think that was what I did last time -- and wasn't that happy as there is potential for a mishap! Hence the 'plug something in' thoughts...
 
well the plugged in fag lighter doesnt remove that potential mishap. The live battery cable will still be live, and will still short out the power supply if you touch it against the chassis when powering the car from the fag lighter.
