I thought i'd make use of the bank holiday and change my clutch and flywheel. All was going well right up to the point when i realised GSF had given me the wrong flywheel, my old ones got 6 bolt holes and the one theyve sold me has 10. Its a good job ive got this week off as im gonna have to go back to GSF tommorow and try and get the right one, and until i do my cars in bits.

No mate the garage floor used to be painted red, but it really needs redoing as its badly chipped. Although having said that it has made me bleed on a couple of occasions.

In the end i decided to stick with a standard one, the problem i have is the dual mass flywheel. My cars been remapped for most my four years of ownership including quite a few trips to santa pod and its never been a problem so decided to save myself the £400 difference in price between an LUK (standard) and the sachs (uprated one). After taking it off today there's load of life left in the original clutch and no real sign of overheating. The original flywheel however has loads of play in it, and was obviously causing my fault.

In fifth and sixth gears if you floored it from about 3k the revs would jump 300 to 500rpm (like clutch slip) before the car would catch up. More info on fault on Wak's site

Its a few years since i did one on a mates S3, and it wasnt something i checked, i checked it was the right 240mm diameter but then assumed it was correct, GSF checked against my chassis number so i assumed wrongly as it turns out it would be correct. it was only when i went to put it on that i realised the hole number/spacing was incorrect.

Probably about five to six hours mate, but ive not been rushing just taking my time and drinking plenty of coffee. I reckon its gonna take about three hours to put back together as they always go back easier than they come off. Not really fussed how long it takes to be honest ive got the week off work, its better than paying a garage £4-500 to do the job.

Been back to GSF this morning, turns out it was the wrong flywheel in the box. They had given me the right part no but it had been packaged wrong(so wrong flywheel in right box), what a pain. Picked up new droplinks and track rod ends while there so should get this finished this afternoon.
