@Giosabcsl - Moved here :thumbs up:

If you are refering to the B9 Platform.

The new S-Tronic has a 9 speed box.

And the following engines:

Petrol
1.4 TFSI COD (cylinder on demand) making 125 hp paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
1.4 TFSI making 150 hp paired to a 6-speed manual / 9-speed S tronic.
1.4 TFSI COD making 180 hp paired to a 6-speed manual / 9-speed S tronic.
2.0 TFSI making 225 hp paired to a 6-speed manual.
2.0 TFSI quattro making 245 hp paired to a 9-speed S tronic.
3.0 TFSI quattro making 272 hp paired to a 9-speed S tronic.

Diesel:
1.6 TDI making 120 hp paired to a 6-speed manual.
2.0 TDI making 125 hp, 150 hp, 177 hp paired to a 6-speed manual / 9-speed S tronic.
2.0 TDI quattro making 177 hp, 190 hp paired to a 6-speed manual / 9-speed S tronic.
2.0 TDI making 220 hp paired to a 6-speed manual.
3.0 TDI quattro making 218 hp, paired to a 9-speed S tronic.

Hybrid:
2.0 TFSI (petrol) quattro hybrid making 225 hp + 35 hp (electric) paired to a 9-speed S tronic.
2.0 TDI (diesel) e-tron maing 190 hp + 136 hp (from two electric motors) paired to a 9-speed S tronic.

Not sure if the UK market will get the petrol hybrid. I "assume the bold items" we will get.

326 HP hybrid? Where do I sign? :)

Errr, that can't be right, surely.

Why not? An S4 at present delivers 328bhp (.....quoted.. ) from a 3.0 TFSI with a supercharger. If this just not supercharged then 272bhp sounds about right.

This is the A4 line-up, the S model will be introduced later on with an uprated engine so they have to leave themselves somewhere to go with it.....can't be giving too much power away to the standard range.

That would be a 3.0 FSI engine then, having no supercharger or turbocharger.
Unless it is some sort of revelation in fuel economy I can't see who would buy it. Stranger things have happened though I guess.

This is another reason for me selling up on my B8 as soon as I heard the rumours of the B9 soon to be coming out I thought I'd get shut before it dramatically drops in value.

My B7 3.2 non-turbo delivered 265ps so a 3.0TFSI should deliver a LOT more than 272

My January 2015 Uk Audi brochure quotes 333bhp for the S4

333PS works out at about 328bhp.

And as for the 270odd bhp in the new 3.0 TFSI, I would hope it's a typo and it'll be 370. My standard 3.0 TFSI dyno'd at 350 anyway.

I'm wondering what they'll put in the RS... 4.0TFSI 450bhp from the S6? Or slightly tuned version to widen the gap between the S?

I take the quoted figures with a pinch of salt as my 3.0 Tfsi S4 dyno'd at just over 350bhp too.

I wouldn't be surprised it they moved away from a V8 in the RS, I hope not but you know it's the way things are going these days. The 3.0 Tfsi has much more scope for power and we all know they hold it back in the S4, maybe they'll set it free and put it in the RS....who knows.

The cylinder on demand with the new V8s makes them a bit more economical, so they might stay with them. They (officially) make 30mpg in an S6, so could see a bit more in an RS4 as it'll be a little lighter. I think a 270-450bhp gap between the S/RS models is too big, plus it wouldn't be able to keep pace with other S models, like the S3, that's 300bhp.

Residuals of the B7 are still strong. Audi hold their money

Yeah maybe Brennan but needed an excuse to make me sell it otherwise I'd keep it forever lol love the car going to miss it, never kept a motor so long so it shows it's been a good one ha

I just had a hire BMW 125d which is a 2.0 diesel spitting out about 220bhp. It was almost as fast as my old 3.2 FSI and more economical than my 2.0TDi 177PS !!

No 2.0 TFSI Quattro 6 speed manual??

That's a shame....
9 speed S Tronic isn't for me.

Is it 9 speed as in 8 gears and a reverse, or 9 forward gears?

does look lovely, but i wonder how many people will be leery, given the current oil consumption issues. i think Audi will have quite a bit of fire-fighting to do.

In my eyes they better start giving you more for your buck in the standard equip department.
Shocking what u have to spec which is normal on other brands ...

It depends what you want I guess, but I find the standard equipment on the A4 pretty good. Cruise, parking sensors, auto-lights etc.

I agree with the auto lights & wipers but I only have rear audio sensors(avant).
Not even an interior glove box light.
I never specced the motor but surely having a b8.5 BE which is supposedly the top spec I'm finding it difficult to comprehend the lack of extras ...

260 HP for the 3.0 doesn't seem to be right if the 2.0 can be specced at 220 H
P surely?

Given that the current B8 is 243 HP, that would seem about right for a bump from one generation to the next. Also, it's not just about HP. V6 is smoother, nicer noise, and the torque and power delivered over a wider rev range (at least in the B8 anyway).

Good!

And it mentions a twin turbo V6 for the RS.

*Sigh*

It was always going to happen I guess, poor old V8...The noise was the only thing that would possibly swing me over from an S4 when it's time to change. Once the kids are bigger ill probably change for an S6 next, provided they dont chuck the V8 from that too by the time it comes around.

I was looking at the S6 too actually. I can't see that engine going for a while.

Expect the B9 to have less standard spec, and for the price to be hiked considerably. I say this because my other half has to replace the company car this year, and we've gone for the new shape Passat. Get it in June, and we've only gone for the boggo 2.0TDI one. Whilst doing the research, its shocking how much VW have hiked the Passat prices (they now start at just under £23k, with the top of the range one is knocking on the door of £40k........for a Passat??? - WTF!) , so if you consider that the A4 is historically priced above the Passat, vis a vis expect the A4 to start at no less than £25k, with the fully kitted range toppers on the wrong side of £45k.

And I'm willing to bet the standard kit giveaway Audi do on the current Technik and Black Edition special edition models will be withdrawn too, if history is any teacher. Remember the "Special Edition" version of the B7 in 2007 (it's final full year on sale) which came with standard leather and 18" wheels.

On the plus side, as this is the run-out year for the B8 there are probably going to be good incentives out there from Audi to keep the metal moving through the showrooms.....so not necessarily a bad time to buy if you are planning keeping the car a while.

Yes, but entry level B8's are already over £25K, and well-specced S4's are often over £45K *secondhand*.

There are already good deals on B8 A4's (5K finance contribution plus around 14% discount if you haggle). It will be interesting to see if the expected April price changes add anything extra to the outgoing model.

Touche - I haven't looked at the Audi UK website for a while. That probably means B9 prices will be even higher. Risky strategy on the part of VW I have to say in bringing the Passat closer to the A4 pricewise - it will either cannibalise A4 customers or it may push people onto the A4 if the 'cost delta' isn't that much.

I sat in the new Passat when we were ordering the aforementioned company car, as classy as a Passat always has been relative to say Mondeo or Insignia/Vectra etc, I still didn't think it had that premium feel that even the B8 A4 has. That full width air vent has something to do with it I suspect....last time I saw one of those it was in a Chrysler Alpine!

I expect to see more goodies being added to the B8 standard spec though...but bet your boots it will be taken back off when the B9 comes out as I said before.

I'd agree with that. But Passats are noticeably bigger cars so their pricing reflects that too. I have a B8 S4 on order, so if there's extra goodies added to the spec I'll be having some words with the dealer... :)

...I thought passats were A6 country - don't they share the same platform?

benjie

Registered User
I think... They all share the same platform from their next generations, the MLB thing. The Passat shared the B5 A4 chassis, but moved away in 2004 when the B6 Passat came out. the B7 (current one, about to be superceded, just a modified B6) hasn't got a huge amount in common with the A4 now. Annoyingly, both the A4 and Passat use the B5/6/7/8 names, but aren't the same thing.

We have a Passat Saloon and an S4 Avant. The quality is noticeably higher in the B8, but the Passat isn't by any means poor. I'd equate it to my B6 A4 in terms of interior.

The new (B8) Passat uses MQB - the Golf 7 platform with transverse mounted engine. The B9 A4 will continue to use MLB. Which I find strange as the longditudinal engine ultimately gives you better refinement (so they say anyway) - which I thought you would have wanted if you have 'premium' aspirations for your product as VW are doing with the Passat.
