Good Day.

Surprised to find both front tyres down to 4mm tread depth across centre 50% after 11000 miles(6mm on side) . Pressures kept at 32 psi. (Pressure Sticker recommends 31 psi) Reportedly this type of wear occurs due to too high pressure. Continental 235/45 R17 fitted.

Discussed with dealer service manager who tells me that this wear is not unusual on A4 due suspension design. We drive carefully and typically used to get close to 30000 miles on my Golf MkIV 1.8T with Continental 16".

Does anyone have any comment or experience on this ?

Thanks

I had fronts (235/40 R18 Conti sport contact 2s) replaced at 11000 miles on my TDI 170 s-line Avant partly due to tyre wall damage but they were down to around 3.5mm. I've now done another 8000 miles on a pair of sport contact 3s and they look to be lasting much better with 5mm still left. Wear has been even on mine with pressures kept at 32psi. Previously I managed around 20K per set of michelin 205/55 16s on an A4 1.9 TDI 130. Would suggest the sport contact 2s are a bit on the soft side.
