Had my S4 remapped last week, and as promised the car had a lot more oomph to it - particularly a noticeably bigger 'kick' once the turbos had spooled up. The engine checks showed up the exhaust gas temp sensor needed replacing but I didn't have time to wait for a replacement and he wanted £200+VAT anyway - I wanted to get my local specialist to do it as I know his price will be right. He said this wouldn't affect the remap. For about a week it was great but halfway through a 100mile drive yesterday it seemed to lose its edge and feels almost like it's reverted to factory settings. Could this be anything to do with the sensor? No warning lights, engine accelerates nice & smooth as ever - just a bit mystified. Any thoughts anyone?

So you haven't fitted the new sensor? If not then yes a EGT will cause the car to lose power. The car is looking to make sure that the EGT is not getting too high and if the sensor fails the car can't monitor the temp, so it keeps boost down to prevent damage to the engine. I would get you garage to check the TDCs again to make sure that it is the EGT and if it still shows a fault get it replaced.

I hope you manage to sort the problem soon, keep us updated after your car has been to your local garage :)

Yep - my specialist sorted the EGT out and the car was immediately miles and miles better. No other fault codes. I'm not 100% it has the kick in the **** it did immediately after the remap, but it definitely pulls longer and stronger and it's soo easy to surge past 100mph. Drove to Devon & back over weekend (650miles) and averaged 26mpg, so slightly better consumption offset by slightly heavier boot I guess.

But what next? I'm reading about Nology hotwires, Sprint booster & Samco hoses. Will go Milltek eventually but OE is still totally sound.

Also want new bottom seat cover for silver silk nappa heated driver's seat, but I geuss that's fr another forum. FYI main dealer wants about £250 +VAT + fitting for it...yes, just the bottom.

Want the car to stay looking subtle and as close to OE as possible, but a little more speed is never a bad thing right?

I have heard of some tuners charging for certain trial software. Also if the battery is disconnected on switchable programs they can revert to the standard like settings.

There are a couple of possible reasons for the feeling of less power. The most common one is the driver getting used to the car. :) the next is that there is an eliment of the car adapting to the new software. S4 and RS4 the fuel you use really matters as well. You might also want to check the DV's to make sure there are no leaks. It's not unusual for a DV to fail and no fault code to ever show. Do you have a copy of VAG-COM? if you do Log the boost AFR and timing and post them up and we'll all have a look.
