Hello people.

A few things nagging at me, now bare with me they might sound daft.

First off ive noticed today after a run say 45 mins, nothing quick at all just poodle with mrs and the lad in the back.
I noticed a smell by the drivers side rear on arrival home like a burning electric smell, saying that a mix of hot break smell too but from that disc... first thought was maybe the break slightly stuck on.

Second of all i noticed when reversing i feel almost a slight grind/gripping grind if that makes any sense, not overly worried but any ideas.

Also last of all, at the front, i have on both sides under the car a greesey oil near what looks like mounts, i assume this is normal well i hope :) When i say mount it looks like subframe.

Any help welcome thanks in advance :)

the noise wen u are reverseing just sounds like the normal noise the 4 wheel drive makes if its a (humin noise) not grinding, wen did you last change gear box and diff oil ??

and the oil if its a redish colour your mounts are leaking it ent normal to have oil on them- pig of a job 2!

as for the electrical burning smell i have no idea you sure it ent a oil burning smell if so that will be rocker covers leaking and the oil is dripping on ur down pipes.

Sticking calipers are common, so nothing to bad.

That noise could be a whole host of things, but i can assure you that my rs4 does not make any noise when reversing etc so i would be checking CV, bushes, mounts etc etc

The rocker gaskets are prone to leaking and do drip down the back of the engine and make a mess, so it could be this. On the b5 there are no oiled mounts that i know of and i have changed everything from engine/gearbox mounts to subframe bushes, snub mount etc etc

No harm in jacking the car up and having a good look around to see what you can see before taking it to a specialist for a health check and to sort the issues.

if you turn while you are reversing 9 times out of ten you will get noise from the 4wheel drive comes with age and the engine mounts are oiled changed them loads of times on peoples cars beacause they have gone!

I can tell you 100% that my car does not make any strange noises when reversing with lock on, i know this as i drive it every day. I would be concerned if it did and would have it checked out quickly. As for the engine mounts being oiled, i have brand new engine mounts sat in front of me ready for fitting to my b5 rs4 and i can 100% say that are not oiled, they are bone dry and show no signs that they require oil.

Oil inside??? cant see why that would be the case. I know the rs4 mounts are solid rubber and the 034 motorsport mounts i have here 100% DO NOT have any oil on or in them.

You must be talking about another model of engine mounts.

the bottom of the mount is the thread were you would do the nut up next to that there is a hole put a screw driver in and pop the rubber u will soon find out there is oil inside....no matter what mount it is sports 1s s4 rs4 b5 they all have oil inside...i have 1 here now that has gone...... if you can post a pic on here of the mounts

You only get reversing noise from quattro systems if something is fecked in the drive train. And mounts don't contain oil. I'd say the mount you have Turbo unit is either aftermarket or has been contaminated.

Feel free to post a picture, i know the mounts on my car (genuine rs4) and the 034 mounts do not have oil in them. As the op has an rs4 what i am saying is relevent to what he is asking.

Using google is appears that the rs4 mounts are not oil filled. Some of the other models may have oil filled mounts but it is of no interest as this thread is about the rs4. Either way im not fussed, i have my opinion which is based on having an rs4 and having brand new mounts infront of me, and all im trying to do is give the op the best possible information to help him.
