i have a 1996 2.6 avant 5 speed auto,
i was told my forward clutch is slipping and that i need to have my gearbox recond,
what i need to know is, what other choices have i got...such as,
can i put a newer six speed or tip tronic box or anything along them lines or have i got to get a like for like.
Thanks

Tiptronic in an early B5 will cost a lot in terms of labour.

There are a lot of complex commands involved, also your regular ABC ECU won't have the ability to communicate with the tiptronic control unit.

I'd get like-for-like, or even convert to manual, at least they tend to be trouble free.

Ive been quoted £1100+vat for like for like.
Ive had loads of cars and I'm too old and lazy for manual.
i think i might see how long it will last as it is.

Hi, my tiptronic keeps 'hunting' between gears when in Auto mode. It seems to do it sometimes in tiptronic mode too, keeps changing up then down again and so on... Anyone got any suggestions what the problem might be?
