Drivers must be aged over 19 for TPF&T and Comprehensive. Drivers of performance models must be aged 23 or over (sometimes 25 - depending on overall risk profile) with a minimum of 12 months' experience of driving/insuring similar performance cars (sometimes 6 months is enough - call us). All drivers must have held a licence for at least 1 year and have at least 1 year's NCB.

In the Chris Knott office recently we were considering whether there were things the industry could do better. We were also contemplating what we as a business could do better.


Being that we're coming to the end of the year and are starting our planning for our new financial year which begins 1st Feb it's a good time to ask this question of you.


It's incredibly important for us to get members' views in all this as we seek to provide the things you want and need. Interactivity is the benefit of being involved with a forum.


Of course, a competitive price is always going to feature highly amongst the responses - we know that and we've responded as the market has softened in recent months. But we're also keen to find out if there are things besides the price that matter to you from a cover or service point of view that would be useful.

After explaining to the lady on the phone that I had heard about Chris Knott on the audi-sport website she went ahead with the usual questions..

Long story short.....I was told that Chris Knott insurance will not insure me on a "brand new" car even though i have 6 years no claims! I was then told to drive my new car for 1 year to gain more experience in it and then to call back after 12 months.

Must say I'm quite disappointed.

Has anyone heard of this in the past?

Not exactly, but after insuring my 2.0T A4 with Chris Knott for years, they were hugely uncompetitive when I asked them to quote for a 2 year old S5 (I am late 30s, no accidents, 10+ yrs NCB). I guess they just don't like "S" cars...

Sorry about that but we do mention in post #1 about the need to have a minimum 12 months experience of a car of similar performance. It keeps the scheme safe for the majority.

Thank you for the reply, What do you class as similar? I have owned a VW scirocco for 3 years with only 40 less BHP than the S3. Also with a DSG box.

Interesting but I've a 2011 Audi RS3 (was RAC) and 2010 Audi TT roadster (was SAGA) and transferred both to these guys.

I had no issues with communication and or the quotes both of which were accepted.

Next year I'll be giving them a chance to quote on our A2 (currently Adrian Flux who was way £££s over with the RS3) as well...

And no, I don't know 'em or have anything to do with 'em other than they provide my 2015/16 insurance.

This reminds me of the age old catch 22 of employers not wanting staff without experience, but employees needing a job to get the experience in the first place.

Realistically, what do you expect people to do here? Go with a competitor first of all, and then come back to yourselves after 12 months? How are people going to get experience on a car with said performance, without being able to be insured on that car first of all?

This brings back flashbacks of just how utterly ridiculous it was trying to get on the performance car ladder with regards to insurance.

You "ALMOST" had me this year but unfortunately due to my age/lack of ownership with my S3 you where unable to insure me If/when I go to stage 2+ so for that reason I had to go with Adrian Flux this time. However once this year's insurance is up and I've had more experience etc I will certainly try you again as your overall business/approach seem's excellent and I was very happy with the chap I spoke to who wasn't trying to force me into anything, gave me great advice and was also very friendly (Ian Wilis) I think he was called please give him some good feedback
