Could this therefore be the reason why my recently empty coolant expansion tank looked like this do you think? It's possible, I've long suspected it's disappearing into the cylinders.
Sorry to drag up an old post but I have just started to experience this quite bad. I have a hill to climb to get from my house to the main road every morning for work, this hill likely starts at around 12% inclination and then shifts to 15% or so for a short period (not that there are sings!). The whole road is maybe 100 metres long. When I pull out and head up the hill in D1 it shifts to D2 almost immediately as if it hasn't detected the gradient!! Car almost sounds like it going to stall until I give it a little and it shifts back to first for the whole hill! When it changes gear its certainly noticeable in the cabin as a lurch but 2nd through 3rd and so on is fine.I think I have what you both are describing - re gearbox from 1st to 2nd.
Up to 10,000 miles, the shifts from 1st to 2nd have been smooth and seamless.
However lately, if I'm pulling out out of a junction first thing in the morning, and wish to make progress, the change from 1st to 2nd has become "lurchy" and it changes up with a jerk.
I'll certainly be mentioning it at the service, I suspect a DSG oil change will cure that, but thats not due until 38,000 miles .............
just had a call from the Mrs,
warning light on dash, coolant low, turn off engine!
she had just pulled up at a car park...
shall I ring the dealer and then have to take it there tomorrow morning or shall I ring audi and get them to come out?
car has only done 9k and will be 2 years old in March 2016....
pic is same as one i posted above but cleaner as its new....sorry don't have one of whats there nowDo you have a pic of the coolant expansion tank?
Just an update from myself. I'm in my second Audi s3 8v a year on since I put up this post and last week the coolant warning symbol popped up.
It's a 15 plate and just covered 8800 miles.
Rang Audi support and they just said to top it up myself roadside. Turned the engine off and on after topping up the coolant and warning disappeared. I have decided to wait and see if the warning pops up again then I think I'll take a trip to Audi.
This is what was happening to me. Happened 4 times over 18 month. I had the car in for an inspection last week and they found a leak from the thermostat housing.
