Hi All,

Ive tried and tried to search for this information, so please accept my apologies if its out there somewhere and my google-fu isn't on par today.

Does anyone know what the score is for MY2018 RS3 oil changes?

So, I got the car just over 12 months ago, and I was expecting to have it serviced at 9000 miles, however, all local dealers informed me (and Audi UK) to go by the car, it was on 'variable service schedule' and that's normal.

So, it popped up the other day (just over 12 months old, and at 13,00 miles saying it wanted an oil service in the next 30 days....).

So, car all now service (great!) however...

While being reset in the dealership, they have reset it to 9000 miles or 365 days, given that I do over 10,000 miles pa I was expecting to be variable service and the car would inform me...

So, calling the dealership, they have advised that all RS cars MUST be on a 'fixed' schedule rather than variable... but can't explain why it was on variable already and maybe it was a dealer error...

So... confused by all this I called Audi UK, they initially said it could be fixed or variable, so pushing a little more to query why the car is now on fixed, they say its upto the dealer as they are the experts, and would recommend going by what they say... nothing official can be given to me from Audi UK, the best they could do is offer me a German phone number.

So, try another local-ish dealer that isn't part of the same group, they CAN and would allow variable oil servicing, as will specialists around the local area.

So, what IS the answer here?
Can anyone point me to something concrete? My Audi just gives me an error, I don't have a service schedule etc in my handbook...

IF I was doing under 10k miles, sure, I completely agree with 9000 miles, but since I'm doing over 10k, surely its ok to have it be as it was on variable servicing ?

Am I missing something?

My brain hurts.

When i had my 16plate RS3 it was serviced every 9,000 miles/once a year which ever came first.

Regardless of what Audi know or don’t know, for peace of mind I would be on a 9000 mls service or 12mths whichever comes first. Fresh oil & filter change can only be good for the engine.

Indeed, and the likely hood here is that I would do a service myself or privately - mid term, however retuning to Audi when 'required' to keep full Audi service history etc.

This isn't so much about what /Should/ be done, its more about what is actually required, and where I can gain that information and have it to hand.

What do Audi specifically say on this matter?
Where is that written down.

If I for example for some crazy reason needed to go up and down the motorway every day for the next year, doing over 20K miles, would that really require 2 services in a year? at Audi Prices? Just because its an RS3?

I believe variable servicing is available on the RS4....

etc etc.

Servicing can be either Fixed or Variable. Its your choice, tell the dealer which you want. What is actually required is the same, either fixed or variable depending on mileage. I am sure it says this in the handbook.

Variable servicing and then doing extra oil changes in between the Audi ones is good practice and many owners on here do just that.

This was my understanding too..

A bit more time on the phone, a bit more pressure applied to Audi UK, and an Audi UK technician has confirmed;
On an Audi RS3 MY2018 (might be different for other MY's, can't see why though). its up to the customer as to what to have the car set too.

In my case, as I do over 9000 miles pa its recommended to have the car set at variable schedule as per any other 'normal' Audi petrol car.
IF I was to do under 9000 they would recommend fixed, however that would still be up to myself.

if anyone else faces issues with this, PM me, I have an Audi UK reference, car is now booed back into the dealer to have mine 'reset' to variable servicing.

All that fixed is doing (imo) is generating more cost to the dealership as it would need to be returned every 9000 miles - I won't name and shame them here, but from now on, I think my car will be visiting a dealer not associated with the larger group this dealer belongs too OR will be going to an independent specialist as they seemed to understand the car better than Audi - quite a concern really, its just a shame that any warranty work would have to go via the dealer network too.

Its also worth noting that by factory spec, the car leaves the factory on variable servicing - this is completely normal and was not a mistake.

Mine was annual service or every 9k miles whichever came first + there are other mileage related items too like plugs every 19k etc. Mine was PFL.

The 9k service alternated an oil change then an inspection so oil every 18k!
