Audi Recall ( all petrol engines)

I phoned my nearest Audi dealer - Poole Audi but they had closed for the night so left my name and number and they rang back this
Morning and now subsequently I am sat in the showroom whilst they do the job. I shall post the results shortly - but so far as already posted I had to go through the appraisal etc and sign their job card - all standard stuff really.. :)

Going to try and get my s3 booked in for next week and see if i can get this done for free :D

Audi didnt get back to me today :( I have a 2000 audi s3 with engine code APY and bolt down coilpacks. Has anyone else with the same car had their coilpacks done at audi or am i not on the recall list?

Had my car booked in first thing this morning - got up nice and early and dropped it off. They gave me a spanking new Audi A4 S Line TDI (120) as a loan car - pretty decent car, came with DAB radio and parking sensors etc. I was only really using to get to and from the office today anyway so didn't really get a chance to give it a proper try out :sly:.

Got a call about 11:00 to say it was all done - drove an picked it up. All 4 coil packs were replaced free of charge, they had completed a health check on the car as well - the only things they mentioned in the advisories were that my rear brake pads 20% worn and my tyres had 4.0mm tread left! LOL!.. they even managed to wash and hoover my car!

The guy who booked my car in on arrival commented on how nice the condition of it was and so did the receptionist when I got the keys back.. looks like I picked a good one after all! - pretty decent first dealer experience given I only got the car a couple of weeks ago! :)

Our 2001 1.8T went in last Monday, had all 4 changed. Dunno why but since the change its goes alot better.
Were now getting pops and bangs through the Miltek which has been on for 6 months and has never sounded as good???
Must have had a really weak spark???

The only thing they found up with it was the engine light on the dash. . . lol its decatted, need to get the remap done now. Will really fly then.

Just took mine to the new bristol audi (what a place),changed all four, very freindly helpful people!,my god she goes now, happy boy thank you audi!

My X reg A3 1.8T AUM started to misfiring last week, had a look and they're OE coil packs so called up my nearest dealer 'Finchley Road Audi' london, gave them my reg and yep recell on coil packs, cool booked it in for tomo. Happy days.

Got all 4 coils replaced  cleaned inside and out and not a penny spent.

Well looks like one if not more of my coil's is on its way out.

So my question is, i currently have hitachi bolt down coil packs that audi seem to be fitting for everyone under this recall, will i be able to get a free set or not?

My S3 56Plate had its coils replaced yesterday and my got does it feel like the cars alive again. Feels a lot more responsive and just faster!! Wasn't expecting it to be honest. They gave me a 61 Plate A4 2.0TDi S-Line in white. Looked awesome!!! I'm only 23 so was expecting a A1 if i'm honest. Was a nice surprise.
My car also got cleaned and vacuumed :D

Had mine done yesterday at Harrogate audi . Good service from them , got the free coil packs , wash and vac, and free sweets !

Hi all,

Had my coils changed on my 52 plate at Audi Bexley today. Did find any extra treatment but then I did sit & wait which only took them 30mins. Oh & when I drove it out was only running on 3, so whisked it back as some monkey didn't make sure they were all tightly down lol.
How the hell they didn't notice it as they drove it out of service area beats me.

Still, all done & yeah does seem even more responsive

Steve

This is why I love this forum, read this thread thursday evening, called audi. Now (monday) waiting in a nice audi showroom in birmingham waiting for the coils
to be changed.

so i'm guessing this hasn't expired yet? what about a 2006 petrol a3 then? i searched pages and pages but couldn't see what i was after? i changed the spark plugs a few weeks ago as my car is a bit shakey and shudders when driving off in first gear when i first start my car up and also for the rest of the trip when driving off in first. Also the wouldnt eveb start a few weeks ago (before i had the spark plugs changed) didn't even start, after a few attempts of turning the ignition it fired up! I will ring them this week but does this sound like the coils? thanks for any info

i rang audi today and they said that my audi had no recalls due :( they took my reg but said the system was being "too slow" and used the chassis number instead! its a 1.6 fsi petrol. just my luck. any reason i am not on their list and everybody else is?

Rang Audi Wakefield, took my reg number, told me it had an outstanding jod on the coilpacks, and it's now booked in Monday 19 December to be done. (Chose that date as i finish work the week before for xmas).

Happy so far. :)

Audi turned me down too. Apparently only for push down ones.. I might try another Audi dealership.. Anyone got theres done in the midlands?

that what i was thinking of doing. let me know how you get on

has anybody had push down coils replaced by audi?

It can't be for the apy engine then cos I have just been turned down by Wearside Audi too

Got mine done on Monday, they did however give me a 'free' check up and 'found' £1400 worth of work!!!!! The fact their recording sheets have the words 'found' and 'achieved' next to the costings tells you a lot about their business model and motivation focus on generating money.

The only essential was the timing belt which is due, they want £399 for this excluding water pump+vat, my local independant quoted me £255 all in with water pump - Booked in for tomorrow )

The remainder was a squeaky wiper arm (recommended a new linkage and motor - £275 - jesus, it works fine, wd40 and its even stopped squeaking), They said I should replace all brake pads as they are 70% worm.... what? so 30% to go! Oh, and while they do the brake pads they should also replace all brake disks as there are some signs of surface corrosion! (When the time comes I can buy all brake disks and pads and fit them myself for a tiny fraction of what they want too)

Not really very enviornmentally friendly either - tut

PS - Your 'free' coffee/sweets aren't free guys.

Phoned Listers Audi in Coventry Today, Took my registration entered it into the computer and promptly told me mine has a Recall on it for replacement coilpacks......WINNER!!!!!!

Booked in next Friday.. Good times :-D

Getting them to look at roof corrosion whilst its there :-/

mine (AUM) went in last week at haroldwood audi, but all of mine were ok, which to be honest i was gutted about (cos i love free stuff)

it did come back running like a pile of poo, they had not put one of the coil packs back in correctly and the engine light came on stright away, they took it back in and sorted that, cleared the fault codes.

but i didnt get the wash or health check, although a nice cuppa in a audi mug was a nice touch

how do i found out whether it is apy or whatever it is?

Well according to S3dave (see his post below) the APY engines are not affected. Have a quick look in your service book for your engine code buddy.

Ring them mate, i did and they said APY engines are not affected...had to go by the car engine as they could not find my private plate s3 on the system, or the old reg witch according to him was a private number too...so no bolt down packs are involved wether it be hitachi, beru, or gmbh?,
but i would ring if only to satisfy your own curiosity.....

phoned derby audi and had mine booked in for the following day, 2001 1.8t, coilpack changed, free health check and winter health check, fully valeted. They had the cheek to hang an audi body work specialist advertisement on my wingmirror for the whole world to see... I've got one small pin sized dint in my front bumper which was on the car when I bought it... But oh well... Trying to get 500 plus labour for new disks and pads... Plus vat.. Yeah right... Then they said 'did you know' you have a faulty indicator ticker.. I know because it ****** me off... And claim its £105 for a diag plus parts and labour.. HA.

Apart from that I had a 'help yourself' fridge with drinks and a few biscuits and a coffee machine at my disposal whilst waiting for the car so I was happy.

If I'm honest though, apart from having a clean car, it made little if no difference to the car...

Im curious to see if mine's due a recall (03 - BEX 190 T) as Ive just had a remap and am a bit anxious about the obligatory coilpack failure :(

Ive just whipped my engine cover off, and I have the push-down type but all are black ? Does this mean the original red ones have been changed by the previous owner or even Audi ?

Hi Guys.

Nice to see people still using the thread I started.

For Everyone who thanked me "Your More Then Welcome"

Johnny

Update

Just phoned Glasgow Audi and asked if there was any outstanding recalls on the car and now the car is going in on the 4th jan to get the coils replaced under the recall.

Cheers

Popped in to Hereford Audi yesterday, had a chat, gave them the chassis number in the end and my BAM is booked in on Friday for the coil packs.

Happy Days ! Nice one Johnny

+1 for Norwich Audi, took my 2001 AMK S3 in for a corrosion warranty claim, they took pictures for the claim and changed all the coil packs before i could enquire about the recall!

Very impressed!

Yes mate, they will do it for you. :)
i rang them and the lady fed me some crap that oh its only a centain chassis number range....... and guess what mine was just outside the range being recalled!! so doesnt seem its all petrol audi's :(

Well mines been in, they've inspected them, and said they're ok. No need to change, at least it's been checked out.

They found extra work though, that needs doing......both Anti-roll bars are broken!! WTF?? Nearly £800 to change them both. Been to two independant garages, and they both say there is nothing wrong with them......????

Thats the 3.2's been in to Glasgow Audi today and got the 6 coils replaced 2 hrs and they even washed and hoovered her. Can't complain about the service asked if they could print off what service history they could and was told they couldn't as it has the previous owners details but was shown some of it. Thing is I wouldn't mind getting in touch with the previous owner to find out a bit more about the cars history.
