Audi has announced a collaboration with Netflix, which sees four Audi vehicles feature in the streaming service’s blockbuster film The Gray Man, with fully electric Audis front and centre.
The spy film, which had a budget of over £167 million, stars Ryan Gosling as Sierra Six, Chris Evans who plays Lloyd Hansen, Ana de Armas as Dani Miranda, and was directed by the Russo brothers. Unusually for a Netflix film, The Gray Man had a limited theatrical release before being shown on the streaming service.
Showcasing the latest Audis
The collaboration between Audi and the online streaming service sees the vehicles feature in a series of high-action scenes with Gosling taking control of the fully electric Audi RS e-tron GT, while de Armas is behind the fully electric Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron. Of course, this isn’t the first time Audis have graced the big screen. Reese Witherspoon drove a candy blue TT Roadster in Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, which became so popular that the company decided to offer TT Roadsters in the custom colour to customers. While Matt Damon drove a 2020 A5 Sportback in The Bourne Ultimatum and in Transporter 3, Jason Statham drove an A8, which featured in a scene where, as the character Frank Martin, he performs a death-defying stunt by driving on two wheels between two trucks.High-performance cars are popular in many areas of the entertainment industry. In the video game Forza Horizon 4, players can take control of an RS 7 Sportback and Grand Theft Auto 5 features cars based on Audis, including the Audi A6. Also, in the iGaming sector, there are titles that are based around many different themes, and some slot games, for example, focus on powerful cars, such as Street Racer found at Buzz Bingo, which offers players a wide range of slots and bingo online. Fast cars have always been an integral part of the entertainment industry, so it is no surprise to see slot titles which aim to capitalise on the popularity of cars.
Netflix is hoping to turn The Gray Man, which is based on the series of novels by Mark Greaney, into a spy franchise to rival the likes of The Bourne Identity and James Bond film series. If the gamble pays off, Audi will profit from the collaboration with the opportunity to present new models in each subsequent film.
Director Anthony Russo spoke of his interest in exploring new technology in films and how excited he is by the latest Audi models in particular: “That kind of approach I would apply to anything particularly to the evolution that’s happening with cars right now. As much as I love the cars of the past and today, I am certainly most interested in where cars are going tomorrow.”
The partnership with Netflix gives Audi an opportunity to showcase its latest models on the big screen, and if the streaming service achieves its aim of turning the film into a franchise, we will be able to look forward to the latest range of Audis in each subsequent film.
