Good evening, I guess you are wondering why I have gathered you all here? Well its to ask a very important question.
I know its a bit like marmite, you love it or you hate it. The illuminated Audi rings on the front of the car. I decided mainly through boredom to give it a go as I`ve always quite liked the look of it and as many people would agree, if you like it, go for it, after all its a cheap mod.
Anyway, I wired the badge up directly to the battery and soldered in an in line fuse holder. Its controlled via an APP on my phone and I can turn it on, change colours, set patterns, brightness and pretty much do as I want with it.
I haven't wired it into the headlights and I don`t think I`m going to either, I just want it for when I want to put it on kinda thing.
When its not turned on it looks identical to a regular badge, 9 out of 10 cats cant tell the difference.
My issue however is this. It arrived with a layer of 3M tape on it which after cleaning the grill space with rubbing alcohol and drying I stuck it on. First problem was the tabs on the new badge were too wide so I had to remove it and dremel them down.
Take two using Halfords "Ultra XL Strong" double sided pads which I cut perfectly to size after completely removing the old stuff, both off the badge and the grill and starting again. It didn't fit due to the original badge slightly bends out from the middle, like a banana to fit onto the grill, its not perfectly flat as the new one is.
I created a jig and bent the new badge pretty much into shape but it tries to bend back a little, I couldn't force it too far in the jig in case it snapped! Anyway I cant get it to 100% stick down into place, if I get one side stuck then the other slightly pops out, its not really noticeable but I know its like it is and want to have it as close to perfect as possible.
My neighbour also has an Audi and my illuminated one fits my car better than the genuine on his so I know its an issue that can happen to the real deal too.
Any suggestions on what I could use to bond this on solid? I don`t want top remove the grill and use clamps so something that would ideally set pretty much instantly?
