Hi guys I bought a 2006 A6 2 litre petrol manual the other day but noticed the temp gauge is not working.
Any ideas seen a couple of threads about a cooling sensor seemingly easy to replace if it is that.
I have a 12 month warranty with it anyway plus the garage I bought it from has told me that if it isn't covered he will cover the cost anyway.
Any ideas everything works fan cuts in when it should and the pipes are nice and warm so think it is just a sensor. Where would it be located anyway?

Cheers

Scott

Get the car scanned and see if there is any fault codes present first and work from there.

Cheers will do going to book into an Audi specialist, just been told that the guy I bought it from said his wife used it and it was working then stopped, then it started working again so hopefully just a loose connection or faulty sensor

Check out the VCDS user map. You may have someone on your door step and may cost you a lot less.

Don't spend any money on this fault, the garage should fix the fault regardless. It's most likely the temp sensor, but let them figure it out.

They said they will thanks got a text today saying to get it checked and he will pay for the diagnostics then take it from there.

Just wanted to update got it fixed faulty thermostat the wiring was corroded and the black sleeve covers over the wiring was falling apart.

Hi... i have a similar issue that it takes forever to warm up and after a 15min round town trip it hardly moved :-(. Any suggestions where to source thermostats (both coolant and engine)?

And that famous question - can it be diy-ed on 3.0 tdi :)?

Coolant temp sensor is easy to replace once you find it not sure where it is on your engine but on the 2 litre petrol its at the back of the engine. One clip holds it in place with a rubber seal on it which will probably be stuck inside so you need to fish it out with your finger. You will lose a bit of coolant. However audi wanted £50+ for the sensor but I was sent one from where I bought the car off ebay a lot cheaper. Didn't cure the problem though as it was the thermostat not sure where it is as it was all fixed under warranty but the wiring was shot and the sleeve was corroded so I imagine it must be at the bottom somewhere. Does your temp gauge move or stay at the bottom all the time, what will happen is the fan should usually run a lot more I would try and scan the car for any fault codes.

Cheers guys... is TPS doing the business with consumers or b2b only?

Cheers guys.

And in general i guess they should come more cost effective than the main dealer? Any indication of how much in % terms? Ta

My 2.7 TDI takes about 15 - 20 minutes to warm up in winter, driving down country roads, so I can imagine that a 3.0TDI driving around town won't warm up much at all.
I assumed that my thermostat was faulty too when I got the car, so I had it changed for a new genuine one and it made no difference.

Depends on the parts, whether there is an offer on and on how they are feeling, but usually at least 10% cheaper than main dealers.
