    That's the MMI unit

The amp has a large quad lock adapter on one side and and optical in and out (two cables) on the other and a blank connector (doesn't have anything in it)
Says Bose on the top one a grey/plastic

    If you google :

    Audi A6 Bose amp c6

You'll see what it looks like

Have a look at the other side, it might have a different layout to the Avant due to the lack of height available

That is the 3G Radio unit, it also has an inbuilt AMP which is disabled when you have Bose, however looking at your photo you don't have Bose, as the Bose AMP should be located above the radio module. Saloon & Avant have the same MMI layout behind that panel, the AMP is not on the other side that's where the fuse box & central convenience is located.

If that is the only module behind that panel, then It looks like someone has changed the speaker grills on the door cards to the Bose ones, they are only £10 each, and it may enplane the sound quality problem your having.

Simple way to tell is if you look on the Radio modules quad lock connector, if there are only 3 wires going into the quad-lock then you have Bose, if there is a bunch of wires going into the quad-lock then you don't have Bose.

Well I've stuck my head in the passenger side boot but there is no sign of a Bose amp in the boot. Just the mmi unit there.

I have 3 speakers on the ach front door and 2 speakers on each rear door. Also took door card off and speakers do say Bose on them.

@Ali2.0tfsi if you haven't got an amp, but have poor sound reproduction and have the speakers and grilles from bosses it might suggest that someone has tried to upgrade the stereo and only done 2/3's of a job

On your mmi display up front, if you are say listening to radio, if you select the "sound" menu, then scroll down, do you have the DSP surround option ?
In their you should see surround level adjustment, sound focus adjustment ect....
    Do you have this ?

Sounds like someone replaced door cards with Bose installed ones hoping to upgrade but now you have mismatch system. The bose speakers will be the wrong ohm age so will sound awful afraid.

That is just the basic Audi sound system, it's not Bose. Someone has just changed the speaker grills to the Bose ones.

I always found the basic sound system to be very poor. The only way to get a better sound is to replace the system with either Bose retrofit or a third party solution that would cost a lot more.

You might require wiring as well as the amp

Have you had the door cards off to confirm? just because the door cards have the Bose logo it does not mean the speakers behind the door cards are Bose, I changed the speaker grills on the door cards when I retrofitted Bose on my A6, they only cost £10 each and are easy to fit.

The reason why I asked if you confirmed the speakers behind the door cards are Bose is that the Bose speakers are different ohms to the standard ones so would most likely blow the standard amp, or give very bad sound. Also the wiring is different and the Bose amp drives extra speakers which are missing on the standard setup.

To fit a Bose AMP to your car would require a custom wiring harness adapter, as the radio module will still need to function, but it's in a different position, so you would need a new frame to house the radio module & AMP. You also need to add the missing speakers and add the wiring to the speakers (rear shelf speakers & center speaker) also change the parcel shelf for the Bose version.

You also need to code the radio module to disable the on-board AMP (you must power cycle the AMP after coding) then code the can gateway. You will also need component protection removed from the AMP which can only be done my a main dealer.

This all sound like a expensive and complicated job. Think I'll stick with the setup I have for now and maybe in the future look into fitting Bose. Also what I will do is call Audi on Tuesday maybe they can tell me what option extra my car came with.

The worst bit will be the harness, everything else is straight forward, and looking at the wiring harness going the radio/amp you car is 100% non-bose, as it all looks standard and has not been messed with. If you look at your service book you will see all the option codes for your car and you can decode them here http://igorweb.org/equidec/

It would need to be custom made harness, you can buy the pins & wiring from this company. http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/ and the connectors would need to com from Audi or you could try ebay. You will also need a copy or elsawin to work out the wiring.

For the AMP you need to find one of ebay at expect to pay around £300. I don't have etka installed at the moment but check this web site out for the part number. http://www.partsbase.org/audi/audi-a6-avant-a6-eu/

You can go into your MMI and change the code from leather to cloth interior it will make the bass lower. It's in the hidden menu section I can't remember which site I was on but it's there
