Hi All,

Just got myself an A4 S-Line in Phantom black 07 plate.

What I would like to know is what are the best products to detail my new black car bearing in mind it will all be done by hand as I don't have a porta cable thingy.

This is what I plan to do.

1) pre-wash car using foam lance/super snow foam, leave to soak for 5 mins & thern rinse.

2) wash car using wash mitt/ two buckets, one with a measure of Chem guys Maxi Suds II, is this shampoo any good or can you recommend a good one?

3) Rinse & then dry.

4) Clay bar car using megs Clay kit from Halfrauds.

5) THEN WHAT DO I DO:ermm:

I just don't know what products to buy/use after claying my car so any help or advice would be appreciated:salute:

I have some products sitting in the shed which was bought for me a while ago now but not sure if they are upto the job for a black car.

Megs deep crystal paint cleaner-any good or bin it?
Megs Gold class clear coat wax-any good or bin it?
Megs NXT Tech wax-any good or bin it?
Megs NXT Spray wax-any good or bin it?

Your help/advice would be appreciated.

Mike try the stickies at the top of the detailing forum....all you need to know is there mate

I've got a phantom black A3 of the same age, & I would say if you are doing it by hand autoglym super resin polish, followed by auto glym extra gloss protection takes some beating because its easy to use and it has really good filling qualities to mask the swirls quite well if you work it for long enough, I have used the 2 bucket metod from new and now its just over a year old its starting to show some light swirling but it is very light, but I've just bought a megs G220 polisher to have a go at amateur detailing so hopefully I'll get rid of them.

Will!!!! you'll have to let me know how you get on.....im currently inbetween buying a G220 and full rotary and practising on a few crappy panels:eek:D...... fromwhat i hear, the G220 takes absolutely ****** ages...keep me posted:o.k:

Put it this way I've spent 6hrs so far & I'm about half way through, I think the rotary is the way if you have the bottle/skill to use one, it'll certainly be quicker no doubt , but the G220 seems a very good machine never the less.

I recently started using the Jeffs Werkstatt kit from polished bliss. Its really easy to use and gives amazing results. I have tried many many polishes over the years including some much more expensive ones and this is the best I ever tried.

I used to use Autoglym and its a great polish, but as with all chalk based products it tends to leave a lot of dust behind in panel gaps etc and if you get if you get it on trim is a right pain to get off.

cheers Will.... are you getting full correction? and how long roughly per panel.....

I use the Chemical Guys Maxi Suds II on mine and find it nice and foamy.

After the clay I use Carlack 68 Nano Synthetic Care then Victoria Concours Wax. Leaves a lovely deep glossy shine and the flake pop is good in direct sunlight.

Theres nothing wrong with what I am using but out of curiosity I'd still like to try one of the Jeffs kits...

I would say i got 90% correction, dunno if I'm been to critical though?,

Not 100% sure if my technique was right but what I did was for the roof and bonnet I did those in four sections spending about 6-8 mins on each section, and wings, bumpers, doors, tailgate, pillars I split into two sections, spending the time on each section, got to say the polishes that polished bliss recommended to me were great, I used menzerna RD3.02 for the cut followed by menzerna 85RD for the final polish then followed by poorboys blue nattys paste wax, which I would say have given a finish far better than when the car was new, with a deep, wet looking shine. With the washing, wheels, clay, polishing & wax, time spent = 19hrs over three days.

All are pretty average in my book. My preferred routine would be...

Wash (ideally every week)

Basic Car Wash Kit £39.95 - http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/basic-car-wash-kit-wash.html (choosing the Blackfire shampoo)

Clay (once or twice a year, spring and autumn are the best times)

Meguiars Quik Clay £12.95 - http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/meguiars-quik-clay-clean.html

Polish (after claying, thus done once or twice a year)

Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish, applied using the white side of an Ultimate German Applicator Pad, and buffed off using Poorboys Deluxe Mega Towels

Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish £14.95 - http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/blackfire-gloss-enhancing-polish-polish.html
Lake Country German Applicator Pad £2.95 - http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/lake-country-german-applicator-pad-polish.html
3 x Poorboys Deluxe Mega Towel £9.95 - http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/poorboys-deluxe-mega-towel-protect.html

Protect (apply a fresh coat every 6-8 weeks)

Blackfire Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection £21.95 - http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acat...mond-all-finish-paint-protection-protect.html

This product gives a highly reflective wet looking shine and is very easy to put on and take off (apply using the red side of a Lake Country German Applicator Pad and buff off using Poorboys Deluxe Mega Towels). If you want to take the look of the car further, you could optionally finish with our Blackfire Midnight Sun Carnauba Paste Wax, which is very easy to use, and which will give even more wetness and gloss. However, because of the high carnauba content, it is pricey, and thus optional...

Blackfire Midnight Sun Carnauba Paste Wax £39.95 - http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/blackfire-midnight-sun-ivory-carnauba-paste-wax-protect.html

I hope that helps, if you have any more questions please fire away, I'm always happy to help. here are some piccies showing the finish the Blackfire wax gives metallic/pearlescent black....
