If you want power we all know there's one way to go..

No, there's been some healthy debate that disproves that thinking.
I merely threw an option into the discussion and it was quite interesting to see some of the thoughts out there.
If I wanted to build something that would rival an S3, I could. I could also do it using half of the £8000 difference in price.
The only reason I would, is to prove it could be done and that's not really a great reason for doing it in the first place.
For me, a £4000 supercharging package would be much better on the 3.2 but, with Police Scotland all over the roads I use, why bother. I get enough kicks out of my bog standard engined 3.2.
I remember being there once upon a time, when the original quattro came out and one of the local dealers used to tear everyone to shreds.
I wanted one badly, until I stumbled across, and bought on the spot, a Group 1 RS 2000 that absolutely blew the quattro away for a fraction of the cost. Now, I just want a sedate power kick that satisfies ME.
Enjoy the power folks, enjoy the tuning and tweaking, enjoy the one upmanship of getting one over on your mates, enjoy the forum.

But always remember, we are all different.

Life would be boring if we were all the same.

I didn't realise you could do it for 4k. But even JBS for 350bhp is £5500 plus you need a Milltek cat back. So at least another £500. At this point you may have well bought a S3.

STAGE 1 - 350bhp
Rotrex supercharger, supercharger bracket, pulley, Setrab oil cooler, lines and reservoir
JBS boost and intake circuits
JBS head spacer gasket kit for lower compression
Large diverter valve
550cc Injectors
Spark Plugs
Oil, Oil Filter, Coolant
Custom-Code Phase 3 tuning
Labour for installation
Approximate price including VAT and all of the above £5,500.00
The above Stage 1 kit has been designed to work in collaboration with the Milltek cat-back performance exhaust system and OEM downpipe and CAT's.

And be just the same as everyone else.....?

No. that's not what I'm on about.

No. that's not what I'm on about.

In a sense I guess that's where I'm at currently but for the first few stages everyone has to have a broadly similar spec list.

After that things get very different.

From a personal viewpoint I don't really care if it's the same as everyone else uses as long as I enjoy it.

The benefit of a well tried route is you can be fairly sure of the results rather than ploughing your own path.

I'm not knocking it Alex, in real terms, with a standard(ish) 3.2, that's exactly where I am but, happy with it.
If I ever did go down the power upgrade route, it would involve a bit of "Out of the box" thinking.

A bit like yourself, there probably wouldn't be much compromise.

I'm just saying that there are ways of making the V6 very handy.

;)

Much the same as I was saying earlier.

The 3.2 can be made very rapid indeed as can the S3 but the hardware is different and it has to be what the individual wants.

Some like turbos, some prefer supercharged etc etc.
but as long as it's fun.

You will always get more "bang for your buck" with Forced Induction, goes without saying. I'd try find a nice S3 8P, they will also be dropping in price as more and more S3 8V's are creeping out the factory..

Unsure if anyone has mentioned but if I was you, I'd try and find one with the DSG Gearbox.. Wouldn't have my S3 without one!

I'm almost certain I'll obtain more luxury from the S3 :)

It may well turn out that the 8P becomes the preferred option for anyone wanting serious power due to the integrated head/exhaust manifold design of the 8v.

Completely agree with you Alex, the IHI Turbo also runs out of "puff" at around 390hp.. and the prices to go beyond 400hp+ are quite staggering!
