Hi, guys. I've recently changed my battery in my 2012 A3 TDi Black Edition S/S (so needs an AGM battery) from the current Varta 68ah battery to a 70ah Varta Silver dynamic, AGM, E39, etc. The original battery had been in there since manufacture & i was experiencing sluggish starts so i changed it. I know the EXACT specs aren't the same but they are close. I read about various methods to code the battery & with my car having the separate 061 Battery Reg. module i used the Long Adaptation option to change what i could, the screen shot shows that i could change the size, from 68ah to 70ah, the vendor,Varta, same as original so no need to change & finally the serial number which i changed the last digit from O to P. Can someone with a little bit more knowledge than me look over my screenshots to see if the values are correct. What i don't understand is the Battery available only showing 54ah when its a 70ah battery. I had been on a 1 hours drive with nothing on, lights, sound system, heater to give the battery a good charge yet it only went form 52ah to 54ah. Is this correct? Also, in the battery history data there's a reading of 8 & 9 for the energy balance & for the energy capacity (throughput) but in the label for energy balance it says (10000 - start from new) does this mean it should start at 10000 & slowly decrease because my previous battery's 2 values for these were 9500 each?? I know there's a lot of photos & i apologise for the length of this post but i have this nagging feeling in the pit of my stomach that the vehicles energy management system still thinks it's charging an older, worn out battery so i'm not getting the full 70ah capacity hence why it took an hour of driving to get the available charge to go from 52ah to 54ah, also there's no entry in the Battery ageing section of history data for the new battery as the last entry is for the 18th Feb (old battery)yet the new battery was installed on the 26th Feb. Finally, in the MVB 017, Battery Identification it says Inactive in green. I've always taken this as green = OK, but shouldn't there be something showing in this box other than a green INACTIVE? Thanks in advance for any help.

Finally, in the MVB 017, Battery Identification it says Inactive in green. I've always taken this as green = OK, but shouldn't there be something showing in this box other than a green INACTIVE? Thanks in advance for any help.

You’re over complicating and over thinking things here. When changing a battery all you need to do is literally change the battery and that’s it. No coding or anything is needed. If it’s sorted your problem of sluggish starting then that’s all there is to it.

Slightly off topic, but anyone know how to find out Ah value of the battery which comes in the car from factory? When i got mine it had 74Ah battery and im pretty sure thats larger than it needs to be.

Quite shocked at that reply! Have you or do you own a start stop Audi? Google battery coding mate, it's everywhere! The battery energy management system is quite complex & you HAVE to tell the car it has a new battery otherwise it will not work at it's optimum & charge it as though it is still charging an 8 year old battery that doesn't hold it's full charge anymore.! It's not a lead acid battery, the vehicle is Stop/Start so it has to have an AGM battery & coded to the car. Also, it's not a case of whether it's fixed the issue or not, i want this battery to work at it's optimum which means telling the vehicle that it has a 70ah battery instead of the old 68ah battery.

I have a start/stop A3 2010 model.
Didn’t code anything when changed the battery and everything works great.
I can’t tell if it works or not at its optimum state though but I kinda agree with @ab1702.

Aslong as the battery is a similar spec and not a lesser spec to what you’ve replaced and you don’t have any errors on the dash then that’s all there is to it.
All you need to worry about is that you haven’t got a drain on the battery and that you’re alternator is working.
If you want to check anything you’d be better off using a multimeter to check the battery is giving out the right voltage and to check there’s no drain on the battery when the car is off.
If there was a problem then your start stop wouldn’t be working and you’d have other errors on vcds.
