I'm the original owner of my 2007 A3 with 2.0 FSI engine (stock, no special tuning or mods). 90k miles, with timing belt done at 80k. No oil leaks. Compression is excellent and torque response still makes me smile. Oil consumption is a little higher than it was when new, but nothing out of the ordinary.

However... the engine is noisy, comparatively speaking. It almost reminds me of a diesel engine (thought not quite as bad). There's also a number of "clatter" noises going on at an irregular rate. For an aging 2.0 FSI engine, is this considered normal? Or should I be concerned? If there is no real problem here, is there any kind of "remedy" that is not expensive to do?
