Driving down the m60 just before Trafford centre, heard a bang noise as if I ran over something pulled over, to see my engine dropped on the offside side of the vehicle, bonnet won't pop so couldn't see exact damage, I'm guessing the mount has snapped/ come loose? Only bought it this Tuesday do its safe to say its going back!

nooooooo!!!! you must be well miffed to say the least.

yep i'd be start round to the car dealer and give them what for :aggressive:

Just had it dropped off in the directors car parking spot!, gutted to be honest, loved the car!

dont let it put you off, i'm on my 3rd A3 so something must be right. how old is the car?

sure it will get sorted lad, keep us posted

What a naff thing to happen!! It could of been worse, thankfully it stayed in and didn't do anymore damage!!
Personally I would take it back, try for a new one and sort out some proper discount for them selling you a car that could of potentially been a death trap.

As said above audis are good cars most the time, I'm on my 3rd, sister is on her 1st, my brother in law has had 4, all have been near on faultless apart from expected / acceptable problems.

If you keep this one, at least you know the problem is sorted. Rather than have something similarly bad on the next one you get?

Still a poopty thing to happen

I know, it's something you never expect to happen on any car never mind one renowned for build quality, I'm guessing when the mechanics of this garage mustn't of tightened the mount up after doing the cambelt change, clearly incompetent and shouldn't be allowed near be any vehicle, imagine if the lower mounts would of give way, could of potentially lost control and gone through Barton bridge!

I hear you brother and feel your pain glad your ok but some used car dealers really pee me off

my daughters 2003 has just had a snapped mount drivers side
snapped all 3 bolts in the engine
its an engine out job to extract the bolts
and the new mount is uprated tps said they sell loads.
£300 quid lighter for the repair as i know some decent lads so mates rates.

Well as I've only bought it Tuesday just gone, I'm going to propose the only way I'm keeping this car is if they agree to pay the bill for an audi dealer or local vag specialist to fix anything and everything that needs fixing

if they dont sort it, id name and shame lad, so other can steer clear

They've got back to me, said it was the engine mount bolts, the one that bolt into the engine, 2 of the 3 had snapped clean Apparantly, what's the likelihood of this?

if you read post 13 its just happend to my daughters car
its an engine out job and new mount
it will be a uprated mount aswell the other was a bad design

Sorry forgot I read that, we'll I have no idea how they've gotten them out but they've said they're just waiting on new bolts?

if i was you id check they put the new mount on
as its the mount that causes the bolts to snap
was it on the drivers side ?

Not very likely at all, more like the mechanic forgot to tighten them after fitting the cam belt and they have snapped under the extra load place on them cus they were loose. I had the same happen but i spotted it before any bolts snapped. I saw the old bolts after they replaced them with new and they were bent like bananas.

I would ask to see the bolts that have snapped. if they are bent they they were left loose when the mount was took off to do the cam belt.

dont accept any ****e off them.

How does the mount cause the bolts to snap?
my mech and a tech at audi told me that
the mount rubber collapses and puts preasure on the bolts engine side and the vibrations cause the bolts to snap
the tech also told me they sell loads and thats why its a new mount
put them togeather they look a lot diffrent.

the bolts on mine couldnt have been left loose from a previous belt change as its never had 1 and its done 60k
and had it from new

mine was from VW sheffield
but they should change it anyway

Ill have to ask the question, then, if they say they only put new bolts in I guess I'll have to complain and explain it needs a new mount?

A new update, they said the mount is fine otherwise they would of replaced it, I'm gonna get an indi to check it out anyway, and with regard to the turbo, they said its boosting fine etc so to them it's all fine other than the whistle noise, but again ill get that sorted by the indi I know with a new turbo under aa warranty
