Audi A1 fuel consumption

Hi everyone, wanted to ask for your advice. I recently bought a 2016 Audi A1 1.0 sportback. However, after a month of driving, I am getting 23mpg (travelled 673.44 km with 67.5 litres of fuel). I am not heavy footed the mechanic said that the engine has no issues. I do turn on the AC but does that really double the fuel consumption? After starting the vehicle the fuel consumption shows up as 15.6 miles per gallon on the on-board computer. Is is a sign of a faulty engine?

AC will definitely reduce the mpg in a small capacity car. IIR the wife’s A1 did 40mpg and she has a light foot without AC on, did see it in the low 30’s a few times.

From your numbers, I calculate that as 28.3mpg not 23mpg?

Its still low - do you do a lot of short journeys?

Silly question but have you reset the long term average screen. (#2)

Could the 15.6 mpg be last journey only (#1)

Thanks! I just redid the calculations and it still gave me 23 mpg thereabout ( granted I did use the google translate from L/100km to mpg so it might have converted wrongly)
Yes there has been more short journeys these 2 weeks. Will that cause a supposed 40+ mpg to drop to low 20s mpg?
Ah no the long term odometer is reading at 6.1l/100km ( i dont know how the previous owners acheived it haha). but since i got the car for the past month, the last journey readings have all been in the low/mid 10s mpg.
Im almost due to change the timing belt. Would that affect the engine and fuel consumption?

Changing timing belt won’t affect mpg. I would fill the car up and do good old maths.
Fill the car until it clicks on the pump, rest trip computer to “0” then enjoy. Once the fuel light comes on note the trip mileage and then fill up until the pump clicks.
For example:
Say you put 43ltrs in and you had covered 350miles.
43 divided by 4.55ltr (1 gallon) = 9.45 gallons. Then divide your mileage (350) by 9.45 (gallons) = 37.03mpg. That will obviously give your average to a tank full.
