hi i wanted to start a thread to show my a3 at various stages of transformation from a 1.8t to an s3 replica and share problems i have encountered along the way and i would also like people to post pictures of there s3 replicas and if they had any problems and how they got round it. thanks. your comments would be appreciated and if there is any suggestions?

it started life as a standard 1.8t

it already had an s3 rear spoiler and s3 mirrors and the rs4 style bumper a cheap fibreglass one
a bit tatty so tried to find a s3 bumper (not easy) so eventually found one on ebay which was only around the corner from me it had a big hole in the side so i had to repair it which i did a good job even if i do say so myself

IMG00472-20100515-1537.jpg

i then fitted the bumper
IMG00476-20100515-1604.jpg

i also bought some rs4 18" wheels the reason for not having the centre caps on is my misses uses it and she lost one but it was apparently my fault because "i did not put it on properly" lol
IMG00890-20100829-1710.jpg

i also fitted some facelift lights no xenons but after having to cut the wing to fit them decided to put the originals back in all the cutting can not be seen so no loss
IMG00474-20100515-1547-1.jpg

i then sourced a rear bumper front fog lights just missing the passenger side spot grill
when i fitted the rear bumper the exhaust is way off from where it should be any ideas ? other than getting a s3 back box ? if it fits? help please
IMG00894-20100829-1711.jpg

i also sprayed the grey plastic bits in front of the rear wheel
IMG00881-20100828-1640.jpg

was thinking of cutting the black door trim back a few inches and filling the gap that it leaves and also removing the front trim on the wing and filling that too so it gives the appearance of the s3 trim where it stops before the arches
any ideas?
so still got a few things to do and the bumpers need spraying professionally as i sprayed them and its not my strongest point well this is where im up to

I think the TT alloys looked better, I would also remove the s3 badge on the boot. use some t-cut to clean out the sticky bits.

looks good that mate, obviously needs spraying but otherwise spot on..... id suggest as above, remove the S3 badge as your best aiming for your own individual style, most will be able to tell it isnt one.

The rear bumper is something we are going to do when one comes along cheap enough, the idea is to have a back box made, otherwise your stumped, the quattro cars have a higher boot floor so you cant use that box. oh and spray ya grill surround black for a nice effect that will suit your colour ;)

do the old headlights fit better than the facelift ones? my facelift ones dont fit very well at all! been mulling over the thought of getting some 2 piece ones but didnt know if they fit any better or not!

as said, get yourself a custom exhaust made up, thats probably the only choice you have really. does look nice though i think you've done well with that front bumper

the facelift ones did not fit to badly but you could see where it meets the wing it was not great but the two piece ones fit perfect

so you make non S3`s look like S3`s does the insurance go up ???? just wondering as old escorts made to look like turbos or the like were actually more to insure than the rear thing lol

Looking good mate :) But i'd lose the badges though. Bet you cant wait till its sprayed properly.
Also as Tim added spray the front grill black, i'd also say maybe darker colour alloys be a nice finish

nice one thanks mate, ill have to get some two piece ones then!

cheers again

to be honest the exhaust could do with just heating the hanger and hammering it so it sits higher BUT its my daily hack and sits fine for me, so just hapy leaving it as it is for now.

You can buy my car if you want 5k and its yours :p its a great car plus quick and good MPG i love it but thinking of getting a M3 as the mrs just got a A4 tdi.

As for the rear wiper i do need a new one actually just cant be ***** to sort it out as said its just my daily hack i love it and look after it but some things i just cant be bothered to do lol

my exhaust is a miltek , i just had the hanger extended to move it to the correct position in the bumper for the S3 one...

Seems harse to cut and weld a new exhaust lol

For details of how i did mine use the search function, there was a lad asking abou the skirts not so long ago i showed him, and in the bumper sticky at the top of the forum i showed how to do the wings.

hi mate i cant seem to find anything could you send me a link or something?

JUST recieved this pic from the body shop so thought i would add this too

Picture_007.jpg

The kingfisher A3 is the misus mate, i have a Dolphin Grey S3.... ;)

any pics? also has your misses a3 got the standard dump valve? as i have a bailey atmospheric one and want to change it back to the standard one but cant find any info on how to do it as mine has got a t piece cut in bt the intake manifold and there are little pipes at the back by the turbo that have been capped off? i will add some pics later

hmmm, im guessing you have a blocked off pipe on the pipe leading to the airbox too? it looks like you have it set up on the cold side of the engine which isnt a bad arrangement.... prob best waiting for someone else to come along as it may be more complicated than i imagine

some more pics i sprayed my grill surround and the rings but they are not on in the pic i also added a splitter which is from my volvo s40 track car and fits perfectly

i have also tried to make the side skirts look like s3 ones i removed the front strip and cut the rear one down then filled and smoothed the area

IMG00912-20100902-1431.jpg

IMG00915-20100902-1431.jpg

then i also repositioned the strip so it sticks out more i dont think it looks to bad
IMG00943-20100905-1225.jpg

i also removed the s3 badge :)

when i first bought the car i found this pic and wanted mine to look like it
X747SAS.jpg

but now was thinking of doing the wheels anthracite and was thinking of getting some standard wing mirror covers and spraying them the same colour

Try using some sort of a polish on the tail lights, it would look brand new, the entire car might need one as well :) where is that splitter from does not go too well with the look.

Nice job with removing the badges. trying using T-cut to remove the sticky bits remaining.

i've never understood this........ each to their own though
