New owner of Audi A4 B7 Avant 2.0 tdi, EML has been on full time and then glow plug light started flashing and i've lost lots of power. I bought a cheap VAG code reader off ebay.

The reader has 4 modes.. Probably a dumb-*** question but one of the 4 modes is A/T.. does this mean Automatic transmission? it shows as 'linking error' and the car is a manual. I presume this is why it shows the error??

Anyway, the reader shows 'no codes' on Engine mode... Strange, why is the EML on??

On ABS mode it threw up a 00532 (supply voltage B+: signal too low) error but that makes no sense.

Mainly I'm concerned as I have no power.. I replaced the brake pedal switch this morning as many forums said that flashing glow plug light means that's broken but it has made no difference and now I'm really scratching my head...

Can anyone assist please??

Get it scanned with VCDS! The cheap ones are mostly cr4p.

Flashing glow light doesn't necessarily mean the brake light switch is faulty btw!

as above get is scanned with a good scanner

use the VCDS map to see if any member is near you

Cheers, Hmm.. yes I have been thinking the same... get what u pay for I guess. What else could it mean, any idea?

Darren I know that now... I suppose I won't need to replace it for a while now tho... ha ha!

Hades where can I find that map? New to this place...

Live north London sir!

Cheers.. I thought the brake switch was a good choice I read loads of forums and they pretty much all said that, plus my brake lights are on constantly so it kinda made sense.... anyway.. Wrong it seems...

But a power loss and brake lights on constant... how??? why???

if your brake lights are on then have you fitted the new switch correct ?

or where did you get the switch from ?

Ha ha... I don't go cheap for everything y'know... Audi dealer part Chingford North London..

Pored over many fitting threads and pretty sure I got it right, popped into the harness correctly, twisted til it clicked, plunger not touched... umm..

Hi mate, saw your post on my profile. I'm in Uxbridge and work in Hayes. Have full VCDS and can help scan the ECU for you, and hopefuly try to figure out what's what.

PM me if you want to organise something.

Hey buddy I'm in ilford and also have VCDS if you need a scan let me know.

Cheers for the offer imz, Leshkin has run one for me and the outlook is not great, few wiring probs to get to grips with but hoping I can sort it. ASre you a mechanic?

Yeah, it seems like whoever worked on the car previously has done a poor job of securing all of the wiring and some have melted through as a result, causing a few shorts in process. Might be worth getting someone familiar with electrics on the TDI lumps to look at the wiring.

Unfortunately not. I've got a few issues on mine namely that my rear some lights don't work yet the front do, can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong. Anyhow this is your thread so I won't hijack it. Let me know if you need a scan at some stage. There is a cheap scanner on Amazon that I bought to keep in the car, it's VAG specialist and generic for others but won't read all modules on VAG. I keep that in the car for emergency, let me know and I'll send you a link if u want.

OK.. For anyone that's interested:

A part of the wiring loom had been left lying over the engine block and 3 of the wires inside had melted through to bare wire which were earthing out and causing a load of errors, I have resealed the wires and re-routed the lead around the side where it should have been and it is now fine..

The intake manifold control unit was knackered and causing more errors, this has now been replaced and all is OK...

I had fitted the brake pedal switch incorrectly (d'oh) which is why the brake lights were on all the time.. Just a note about that.. Be careful fitting the switch, I looked at many threads on how to fit them without breaking them and still f**ked it up and broke it, You need to pull the pedal towards (yes) yourself, hold it, put the switch in and twist it.. then release the pedal..... (apparently)

:wtf:
