Anyone with the CTS Turbo Inlet pipe have any WHP gains to share?

Was thinking about getting this instead of a full intake. Not really convinced a $500 intake, that nets about 10hp is worth the time/energy/justification.

I've read someone where there was a 6-7whp gain... which is more in line of bang for the buck for me. Many have also stated that they felt there was more oomph in the car, but its hard to be able to tell such a slight hp advantage - I'm assuming the noise is what is the placebo. Was looking at getting the CTS Turbo Inlet pipe, along with a K&N filter, as the stock pipe looks to be quite the airflow bottle neck. Anyone with this piece have any dyno charts to share? CTS seems to not really advertise any numbers for any of their parts. TIA.

I think the inlet pipe/elbow brings about 7hp on an S3.

@batch had one fitted and he had his car placed on a dyno then re-dynod after several mods were placed back on the car. There is a post somewhere. From memory the CTS elbow added about 7-10bhp where as the air intake added close to zero with only marginal torque and response numbers- all though they do look better under the bonnet. Worth a purchase.

This is correct. MTM Cantronic on, made just over 360hp. CTS TIP added with standard intake and Forge induction pipe took it to 375, adding the VWR R600 added nothing more, but Improved the power/torque curve and response, lowering intake temps.

Moddedeuros.com has for $110.49 at the moment. Link in original post, however shipping might be a little crazy overseas. Bunch of black Friday sales going on here in the states. Today (cyber Monday) being the last day.

The way it interlocks to the turbo via 3 lugs and the 'O' ring seal to the turbo itself will play a large part in how successful you are - any air leak and you'll loose boost or throw a MIL on the DIS.

$57 shipping the the UK seems a bit excessive to me... Anyone know of any other suppliers?

Also PSI Tuning and Statller Power Developments, with Brotek they are your best bets in the UK.

I have shipped direct from CTS previously for my other pipes (turbo outlet and throttle pipes complete the set of boost pies) , they arrived super quick in 3 days but watch out for the customs bill that arrives a week or so later !!

I had a bit of an issue with my CTS pipe as it kicked up the EPC light and it was a boose leak (over boost). Swapped it back to original and was fine, still not sure if my car was pushing to much power or torque for the pipe as I have a de-cat.

The issue happened @5000rpm from 3rd upwards but that where max torque is. 5th gear was the most common time it happened.

I did hear there was a bad batch but mine was from the group buy a while ago.

Just as a side note, my OEM one was hanging off when I came to swap the CTS pipe in! Torx bolt only screwed into the turbo housing, not in far enough to retain the pipe, which was wobbling about!

@MikeParkin was yours pretty loose? Was reading the early ones might of been too small, however the OEM wasn't a tight fit either. Hope this isn't the case for me.

@batch, was the screw long enough for the CTS to be secured in? Maybe I should use loktite.

Jeez! Were you not getting any lights up @batch ?

The OEM pipe has a very tight and snug fit.

I'm not sure to get another CTS or something else once I go for full torque map.

I just think it wasn't tight enough into the turbo but the screw was as tight as it could go @rcnacura so must of been faulty but I'd like to try another CTS to be sure.

The screw was fine, good few turns to tighten it with the CTS fitted. Don't panic!

My pipe wasn't! Screw wasn't even finger right and pipe wasn't fully twisted home. Friday afternoon job?!

I bought my CTS pipe just before the group buy albeit from a different supplier (different batch?) and it's been fine nice and snug into the turbo.

Removed it last week when fitting the GFB DV+ and checked then - no fit issues.

Good write up guys, informative I was going to pounce on one a couple of months ago then they dropped a few dollars a week ago, I had to get it!
I read CTS had bad QC in a couple of batches, looking at what arrived today mine looks pretty good. Roll onto the weekend and I can bolt it on and try it out.

It's a diverted valve than can vary its position rather than just 'on' or 'off' like the OEM one which helps to maintain boost and improve throttle response ....

    http://www.gfb.com.au/products/blow...359-suits-vw-mk7-golf-r-and-audi-8v-s3-detail

Now that I've gone for all CTS boost hoses and an upgraded intercooler I didn't want the DV to be the weakest link ! Seems good so far much more consistent boost between gear changes.

Yes mate 3/4 hour taking it steady - just stuff loads of rags behind the turbo so you don't drop any bolts and make sure you oil the piston as per the instructions.

Anyone about to fit a CTS Turbo Inlet/Elbow don't forget to remove the 'O' ring from your original inlet and fit it to the new one before bolting it on to your engine!
