Anyone tried eBay vagcom?

Been looking at cheap vagcom cables and software on eBay, they aren't Ross tech ones but not sure if it makes a difference? Will I be able to edit the start up screen on my headunit? Any suggestions?

Loads of people have used them,myself included. No way to edit the start up screen i know of with a full Vagcom(VCDS) or otherwise.

Might be worth a search or a peak in the Vagcom - VCDS forum section
