Audi a3 2.0tdi bkd engine if i blip the throtle it sounds like a loose washer rattling around slightly when the revs come back down. The noise seems be be coming from the rear of the engine bay. The turbo has been replaced but the noise is still there. May just be normal but i dont have another car to check. Could it be the vnt in the turbo that vibrates abit as when i split my old turbo its not held down firmly!?

The car also makes a subtle cricket sound when im driving down the road. Is that the norm? Only hear it with the windows down and radio off!

Ever since fitting my new gearbox, Clutch and hybrid turbo I too have been getting a noise similar to yourself, but I'm getting it between 1500-2000 rpm only:( sounds like a loose heat shield, I've had the car up on the ramp many times to try and find what's causing it with no joy, all shields appear tight and little tin clutch inspection plate on gearbox is also tight, only visible fault is excess movement on subframe mount (bush) IMO, it is driving me up the wall :(

Yea. I sound like a cricket! Probly wouldnt bother me if i knew it was the norm! My guess its the vnt in the turbo rattling. I could be wrong! Wish so eone else with a bkd would let me k ow if theres does it!

I had an annoying rattle that I couldn't find, this thread fixed it for me:

OOOO-A3: Fuel Line Rattle Fix

The sound was resonating all over the place, really hard to place. Happened at about 1,100rpm only.

Hope it helps

I will give this a go, thanks m8, :)
I can rev car to redline when at standstill and get NO noise, but as soon as engine has load on it (moving) and is driven with right foot flat to the floor it rattles at 1500-2000 revs :( if I drive gently through the gears it will go past 2000rpm with no rattle every time ,
ANNOYING is an understatement :tapedshut:

Tell me about it, I was at my wits end trying to find out where this was coming from until I came across that write up. You just cant enjoy driving knowing is there. Hope its the answer.

Don't forget to shove a load of foam inside the box channel that the pipes run through, you can use the small opening covered by the rubber grommet. I just shoved a load of 10-15cm strips down there to stop the pipes from moving.

(You have no idea how many times I had to re-write that so it didn't sound like porn)

Problem solved! There was a split in the turbo to egr cooler pipe! Welded it as a temp fix untill i can get a new one orderd! And noise gone! At long last!

Hi Ade - got the same cricket noise on my car, where on the pipe was the split? turbo or egr end? was it visible with just the engine cover off or did you need to remove the pipe?

Its the pipe that conects the turbo to the egr cooler! I hadto drop my exhaust to take it off and then i seen the split in the flexi part! Tps want £80+vat for the pipe!

Just taken my engine cover off and looked at the cooler pipe - it looks pretty clean from what I can see (some of it is obscured by the engine) - was there any visible sooting in your engine bay?

No! I even took it off to replace the turbo and couldnt see anything. Only when i bent the flexi i seen the crack!

So the crack was located on the actual flex part then? Sorry for all the questions but going to get my local garage to whip the pipe off tomorrow and weld it up if cracked. how's your welded pipe holding up, still quiet?

Yes! It was in the flexi. Yea its still doing the job! No problem! I just wish i had someone had the answer for me.

can you put a pic up as I have one of those pipes which I took of when I done an egr delete

I was looking into that but the cost of the remap for the eml light put me off abit. What condition is your pipe?
