Hi all, anyone advise on what this steering noise is? It comes and goes.

Hope the video works

Cheers

Slip ring behind the steering wheel. Its expensive to replace so get used to it. seems to be an A6/Q7 thing

How much is it to replace?

Its roughly £140 for the part (for the A6) then labor taking steering wheel etc all off.

Is there any lubrication that can be applied before I take it in?

The noise don't seem to be coming from the slip ring if I'm honest. It sound like further down the rack to me. Similar to most the noise is intermittent and does seem to be heat related. The noise seems like it is transferred to make it sound like its right behind the steering wheel.
Have you got a EPC part explosion of the rack on my q7?

Cheers

I've got a feeling it may be coming from one of the universal joints. We get a similar noise at work on our machines.
Im Gonna get under the car this weekend and have a look

Just an update for those that have this problem. The squeak has now gone. I lubricated the coupling between the cockpit and as it goes through into the engine bay. Section 6 in the diagram above. If you peel the carpet back behind the brake pedal and apply a large amount of silicon lubricant then it will go away. I have attached some photos.
