Yet after searching the entire web for answers i still have not been able to sort my problem out.
Basically i have a really wet drivers side footwell on my 8P1, i have tried to follow other threads on this issue to solve mine but no luck? I've check the door seals and all around the doors plus kept an eye on the coolant level but no luck.
My gas pedal is the area where it gets wet first and the water shows? I would appreciate if anybody could list down some other areas i could check to solve my problem.
Hi mate.
Absolute nightmare as you know...I had this on my 2007 Passat which clealy is a different model but the fault finding principles are the same. I searched the net and could not find one report of this issue on my model of car, so I had to start from scratch.
First thinng I did was to try snd check the obvious, which is the windscreen scuttle. This can get bunged up with leaves, crap, dust etc over time. Next thing is checking your car fluids aren't leaking, clearly if they were you would be experiencing isses with other parts of the vehicle.
If you get a mate to help you, sprinkle some talcum powder around the door seal and get a hose to water over it with the doors closed. Any leaks coming through the doors or window seals shOuld show ip.
Next thing I did was to get the carpets pulled back and get the hose on again to see if you see any water ingress. In my case a small trickle could be seen coming from above the wheel arch area behind the dash, total nightmare! I had the screen removed to check the bonding. This showed some poor sealing with gaps, had all this removed and screen put back properly. Tested this agian but leak still there.
Hose on again, water still coming in. To cut a long story short it was coming through the hinge body which holds the door to the car. Impossible to identify without going through the process of elimination. The fix consisted of smearing a two part bond around the hinge area! Problem solved.
Apologies for the rant but it can be a long frustrating process. A garage would ream you out for the time taken to find it but worth persevering with it.
Hope this helps!
