Annoying vibration

My car seems to have developed a vibration that while not serious is damn annoying, it occurs in any gear as well as in neutral but always at the same point in the rev range regardless of whether accelerating or decelerating.

The vibration feels more like a buzzing vibration (if that makes sense) that can be felt through the steering wheel & pedals that starts at around 1400rpm & completely disappears at 1900rpm. Below 1400rpm & above 1900rpm there are no shakes or wobbles & the engine is smooth as silk, the weirdest part is that turning the steering wheel does sometimes alter the feel of the vibration in the steering wheel even in neutral.

So far I've checked wheel balancing, swapped the wheels round (not that I can figure how that would affect the car at idle), checked the injectors on VCDS which appear to be operating & balancing ok, + a visual check on the upper engine mounts all appears to be ok.

Any ideas where I should be looking next?

I did think that initially but as the idle is perfect & the vibration only seems to occur between a specific 500 or so RPM, I'm pretty sure its not that.

If your turning the steering wheel and that changes it I wonder if there is anything going on with the power steering pump or associated belts.

My initial thought was DMF, but I'm not sure how you diagnose a DMF failure without taking the clutch out.

Our cars have an electric steering rack so do not have a pump or belts. Think it's more likely to be DMF but I think only an expert can confirm a diagnosis. Best to pop into a VAG specialist and ask them. Unfortunately VCDS will not show any faults !
