We should really think about making a sticky with all info condensed in one place. These are getting very popular, so makes sense. I'd be happy to contribute.

I got this installed on your recommendation and currently only run rear speaker feeds through it as fronts are driven directly by the HU. The result is quite good, with any traces of hissing now gone as well as the ground loop noise. I fixed the ground loop noise with an isolator previously, but it seemed to remove much of the bass to the rear and given that it's the rear feed is used by the built in sub, that was lacking.
This filter seems to work much better, although a low volume thud can be heard when the stereo is switched off. Given significant improvement in sound overall, I'm willing to live with that.

I'll be receiving an Xtrons Android 5.1.1 head unit and Bose RCA noise filters/suppressors next week. I always have been (and will be!) rubbish when it comes to wiring with head units, how do the Bose RCA connect to the Xtrons/S3? Is there any other adapters I need at all or is it just plug & play?

If you got one of the Audi-specific units then it should come with all the adapters you need except the noise filter. You may need a different radio aerial adapter.

I ordered the Xtrons A3/S3 unit from audio visual tech on ebay, so that should hopefully come with all of the correct adapters then. I've also got a different radio aerial adapter from car audio direct as advised on this thread.

    Thanks again!

Post up your results mate! I can't get over how cool these units are over anything out there feature wise. I just wish they would sort out the quality a bit as well as the eq. If they do, RNSE crowd will have no choice but to switch

I'm thinking of switching up to one of the 5.1 units too, but the 4.4 seems to work just fine which makes the expense difficult to justify.

Once you get your unit in, let us know how the mic quality for phone calls is... It's the only thing that has been bothering me so far.

I'll be fitting it on Tuesday/Wednesday next week with the help of my brother, so I'll make sure to post my findings after!

They do sound like a pretty neat unit, especially when you consider that they're a third of the price compared to the RNSE and with over twice the functionality. Can't wait to get it in!

The noice surpresor just needs and earth and a connection to the HU amp blue lead and it will connect in between the rca output to the rca inputs on the main power plug and bingo all done bar the arial and gps leads. Therr are adapters to use the cars internal gps if you have a look.

I have the same head unit you have ordered and its very good apart from the whining noise and the radio!
I have the RCA cables coming today and will update you and give you a hand if you are struggling.

As for the radio the signal is still poor and am researching on the correct cables to buy to fix it!

apart from that great head unit and i would recommend buying the dash cam, also the OBD2 Adaptor is very cool!

Let us know how you get on with the RCA cables as it sorted most of the issue out for docurley and leshkin.

Regarding the poor radio signal, have you tried this yet? http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ct27aa87-aerial-antenna-dual-fakra-din-adaptor

Sounds good buddy, I'll be receiving the HU, RCA's, FM, Camera & OBD2 Scanner all on Tuesday next week!

I received my Xtrons Android 5.1 Quad Core HU yesterday and I must say that I am very impressed with this neat bit of kit!

It only got wired up at 11:15pm and I have been at work today so haven't had much time to play around with it yet. Cold boot is not that long though, around 10 seconds may be but I'll have to properly time it, warm boot is nearly instantaneous. Functionality is what has really surpassed my expectations with all of the apps & customising options available and that's without it even being rooted or anything yet!

I was a bit wary of what to expect regarding the sound quality after seeing a few comments but the standard bluetooth music player is just as good, if not better then the Symphony HU I had before, I'm also running a Bose sound system by the way, however I'm going to check later to see what setup I have.

I am suffering a little bit with quite rear speakers and some interference (more so at low volumes) of which my brother tried wiring the Bose RCA Suppressors but to no luck as it removed the sound altogether. I've just had another look through the entire thread and have seen comments from tony mc and docurley regarding the wiring so we'll give it a go before pestering for more answers.

I don't listen to the radio but bought the dual fakra fm adapter as advised and the radio seemed to be fine.

I'm going to have a proper play around with it tonight, connect it up to my wifi and download Poweramp for an improved EQ as well as OSMAND+/Sygic for offline maps as I'm not fussed about streaming or using anything online.

The Xtrons ELM327 OBD2 bluetooth scan tool and torque pro app are a great combo for under a tenner, being able to see live readings from the ECU is more than handy!

Moving around apps/menus as well as selecting icons work immediately without any pauses or delays which suits me down to the ground giving how inpatient I am!

I've got a USB reverse camera but need to work out how to wire up or just pay professionals to do it. Does anyone know how you get music to continue playing when you're in reverse?

All credit goes to this thread, especially docurley, leshkin and tony mc as I wouldn't have such an awesome system in my S3 now if it wasn't for them.

I'll make sure to update after I've spent some more time with it.

    Cheers.

I'm still loving the head unit, a few of my mates who have seen it are also really impressed. I've been busy so haven't spent as much time playing around with it as I would've liked to by now but have at least got the main apps/functions I wanted working.

As mentioned in my previous post the Xtrons ELM327 OBD2 bluetooth scan tool and torque pro app are a neat feature to have. I've downloaded Sygic maps as well as the Sygic traffic and camera app which integrates into the main one for a great offline navigation system which works well, especially for free! The built in bluetooth music player works fine, people recommend the Poweramp app due to it having a better EQ, however I don't think you can play music from your phone, connected via bluetooth through the Poweramp app on the HU?

Also, does anyone know how you get music to continue playing when you're in reverse?

The only issues I am suffering with are quite rear speakers and some interference, albeit neither of them are chronic. After reading @tony mc and @docurley comments earlier on this thread regarding how to wire the Bose RCA Suppressors, my brother and I attempted to do this but failed miserably unfortunately. I know that @moleskn1 was also having some difficulty with this part as well, therefore would someone who has successfully managed to wire these up kindly take a photo of the setup please?

I have a document from mjr901 which shows all of the specs my car came with from factory of which for the sound system is has 8RY - Speakers with BOSE system if that's of any help.

    Cheers.

After looking online then I don't think that it is possible to play music from your phone connected via bluetooth, through the Poweramp App on the HU, you can only use the HU's built in bluetooth music player for this. I've done the next best thing though and downloaded Poweramp onto my phone and use that now instead of the phone's inbuilt music player which seems to have made a slight improvement.

I've managed to work this out myself, it's in the HU's Settings > Driver Settings and then on the 5.1 software it's the bottom (4th) option which is attenuation level, default is Off and then there's 1-10 as well as On so selecting the latter keeps the music playing at the same level when in reverse.

Apart from wanting to hook up a reverse USB camera at some point then all that's left to sort on the HU is the above, so if anyone could offer any help please then it would be most appreciated.

    Thanks.

For system-wide eq adjustment give Viper4Android a go. It's a software sound processor and has a very good eq. The only things it won't apply eq settings are radio and DVD player. It does need root access, so check how to root your HU if you haven't done that already.

For not muting system sound when in reverse, check the settings. You should have an option to mix the sounds. Can't remember the exact location for this setting though. Need to check later.

I'm happy with the music quality I'm getting now with the current setup to be fair, I'll be tempted to look down the rooting path when I have more time to properly look into this and if I want to get more out of the HU.

Slight interference, more so when the volume is low/music off and the rear speakers being a little quiet are the only issues I'm getting now. So I just need to work out how to correctly wire up the Bose RCA Noise Suppressors.

Guys sorry to post up in here but I am **** with anything ICE related, I have a android headunit in my a4 b7 which is half amped and the rears are really quiet, I've seen it mentioned in here I need Hilo converters but in particular PAC ones. I cannot find these anywhere, am I looking for the wrong thing? Also would I just be able to wire the Hilo converters up to some RCA connectors then place the Hilo converters in between the exsisting rear plugs for the rear speakers and headunit?

    Thanks.

What's the best Android unit at the moment (September 2016), one where you have to do less to make it work right?

My car is Audi A3 8P - NON Bose

    System that:
Plays music as good as standard system from front and rear speakers
    Bluetooth for calls
Bluetooth to play music from your phone
    Reverse camera option
Sat Nav (well guess all of them)
Wi-Fi ( I guess this is how you download everything etc)
An option to tether my phone to it to get internet on the go e.g. Spoity, etc

My vote goes to the Xtrons Android 5.1 HU from audio visual tech: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/XTRONS-2-...444270?hash=item2a6cd3c4ee:g:KUMAAOSwZVlXrBnF

I received this last month and it is spot on, does everything you stated above and much more. As yours is non-bose then I believe that all you require to help the rear speakers is one PAC Sni 35 converter:

If you don't have Bose you don't have to buy anything to get the rear speakers to be louder there is a setting in the factory settings where you can turn the volume up and this will sort it and you also need to fade the eq slightly towards the rear of the car in the settings. I made a thread about it with the full instructions on and I think it were titled "android headunit rear speaker fix. No extra parts needed"
Since i figured this out and did it on mine the sound from the rear speakers is now the same as when i had my stock Audi symphony unit if not better.

I'm in process of ordering the Xtrons head unit (it's in a basket already at Xtrons uk official store). But then I got a question: where do they ship from to EU countries (I'm in Denmark) and do we have to pay duties?

Also, some of you bought Xtrons from audio visual tech at ebay. Is there any advantage to purchasing it off ebay.co.uk rather then from Xtrons official UK store? They have 10% sale with a coupon code DEC10 in December.

The last pre-purchase question. Are any car stereo removal keys included in the package or should we purchase them separately?

I didn't order an Xtrons but mine didn't come with car stereo removal keys. When I was looking last, most seemed not to come with them.

I have a Witson unit which has served me well - but I'm thinking about selling it as looking to change the car soon. If interested let me know/pm me.

Xtrons UK web site is an official UK importer and they ship from UK - I ordered a unit from them for my dad a few months ago and it arrived within 2 days. I have an older ebay RNSE-like unit in my S3, but really tempted by the Xtrons latest 5.1 unit with the same design.

So far dad's a happy camper.

Not sure on removal keys - I'd order some just in case

Thanks for the offer, but I have to decline it. I want something of the last generation. As to removal keys, I asked because I received another Android head unit last week and the removal keys was included, low quality ones. I send everything back though, with keys.
I will oder the keys, hope they arrive before the unit :)

On delivery, I hope they ship from UK to all EU countries. I sent them a message and am waiting for reply.

I was going to buy an OBDII together with the head unit. Anything else? A rear view camera? I didn't see anything attractive at Xtrons's. What affordable reverse camera would you recommend? I think of something as much invisible as possible, perhaps an OE or a similar design? What do you think about license plate cameras?

There is a neat solution discussed earlier in this thread, I'd go for that for rear view. Seeing as its an option I'd go for the DAB module, but not sure if you listen to radio much.

I'm pretty sure they can ship to EU without import tax, but that's something for them to answer.

I read through the whole tread, now I'm re-reding it in case if I missed anything important. I'm still on the fence about the noise suppressors and if I need them at all for my non-bose A3. I had to take notes when I read the tread first time.

I was going to post it here, but posted to another tread by mistake. So I re-post it here too. Sorry if you read and replied it already.

I placed an order at Xtrons UK store for a head unit, PF75AA3ARP (a new model with TPMS sensor support) and an OBDII scanner.
As I learned from this tread, I would need noise suppressors and possibly a line converter. What would be your suggestions if I wanted to avoid unnecessary expenses? I want to add things gradually.

I can't avoid using the noise suppressors, can I? Did everyone have engine whine/light buzz noise issues? Do I need two sets of noise suppressors (for front and back speakers)?

I've got a non-Bose system. Did everyone with non-Bose have the "rear speaker" issue? Should I buy a HiLo converter anyway or should I rather wait and see what happens?

And a less clear to me: If I install a HiLo converter, do I need the noise suppressor/s anyway or does the HiLo converter eliminate the noise as effectively as the noise suppressors?

Edit: Today I found a subwoofer in a trunk of my car :)

I received the Xtrons Android 5.1.1 HU yesterday but first had time to fit it today. Following an advise taken in this tread to avoid locking the brackets in order to easy removing the HU when needed, I just removed the brackets completely and used gaffer tape to make a sort of temporary handles. Now I can easily take the HU off the dash. Another reason to removing the brackets was that I'm going to find out how to modify the brackets to make this thing fit flush to the dash and hold fast.

On the sound. I didn't notice any noise so far but I didn't drive with the headlight on today. The rear speakers and the subwoofer are totally silent, even if I move fader 100% to the rear. I have a non-bose system. I need a HiLo converter, do I? I saw one by Xtrons: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171439058845 Is that what I need or a PAC SNI-35 is a must have? I'd rather avoid buying anything from the US due duties.

    I have two updates.

    1. I ordered the PAC SNI-35 from the U.S. ebay. The price of $9.13 is below the duties threshold :) I have to wait for delivery 2-3 weeks though.

    2. I made a lot of measurements and comparisons of the Audi Concert and Xtrons head unit and I found out why the HuiFei based head units don't sit flush in the dash and why the locks/brackets don't work properly. I easily solved a not-sitting-flush issue (took me a few minutes) and now the HU slides on place and sits there almost as secure as the OE HU, even without the locks (I removed them completely before I started experimenting with the fitment). I think I know how to modify the locks and make them click and secure the HU in the dash, but I need to find my pliers first :)

    I'll keep you posted.

Update. I unplugged all wires and plugged them again. After that, all speakers work equally loud, without any volume difference between the front and rear speakers. No PAC SNI was needed, so I cancelled the order. Installed Poweramp and it made a huge difference. Should I try Viper4Android if I'm satisfied with the bass level? Could it improve the sound which is good already?

Also, I ordered a rear view camera and a wireless transmitter & receiver.

Sygic has a 70% discount the last day today. I'm going to buy it and install on Xtrons and a smartphone, but I'm a little confused what version to choose. There are two: Sygic Car Navigation and Sygic GPS Navigation & Maps. I contacted their support and asked to explain difference.

Thanks. I bought Sygic with all premium features and lifetime updates. The license is legal for three devices that you own.

Also, I installed the Malaysk ROM today, but don't have an opinion yet. There's something in its appearance that I'd like to change or revert to the Xtrons user interface. I hope it's possible.

Who knows how to make Xtrons to not turn on music when it starts?

Removed the Malaysk ROM and installed an updated version of the original one. Works much better. Than I installed Car Launcher Pro. Nice thing. What I like about it that it allows to choose what player are on the home page (Poweramp in my case), instead of showing the original one that I never use alongside with all that icons I don't need. Also, it allows to remove the status bar from the top of the home page.
