Looking to replace the CD changer in my glove box for an AMI unit, but the specific A6 ones part number 4E0 035 785 B are quite a lot more expensive then say one for an A5, part number 8T0035785A. They look very similar, which of course may mean nothing!

Are these compatible with our A6's?

Thanks
Peter

All modules starting with 8T0 are canbus AMI modules, which won't work on the A6. You need one starting with 4E0 these are fibre optic and are far more expensive than the can-bus version.

Thanks B5NUT, looks like I will have to bite the bullet and dig deeper into my pocket!

Brought the Audi AMI unit and a double module glove box, fitted it alongside the CD changer and it worked right away no VCDS coding required.

It will work, however you get error messages on the gateway as you have added equipment as the car is not coded correctly.

Indeed, scanned the car today and get this error:

1 Fault Found:
00384 - Optical Databus
011 - Open Circuit - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00101011
Fault Priority: 5
Fault Frequency: 8
Reset counter: 40
Time Indication: 15

But as you say, it works fine :)

You should get an error on address 19 gateway not coded correctly. If you did not then you have not set the AMI to media player 2, so you have the CD-Changer & the AMI on media player 1, which may cause unknown errors when using either of the devices.

Do you know what coding I need to do per chance?

Still not the correct fault code. That is just an intermittent open circuit you get when removing any device. Did you ground the extra pin on the AMI or have you just connected the 3 wires?

I brought a power and optical split cables and just plugged it all in. There was a Dension unit there which I removed and I was left with 2 'looms' one optical and the other was the power etc. I just plugged in the splitter cables then plugged the ends of those into the AMI and CD player, CD player was first from the original looms, and it all appears to work ok, selcetion of tracks etc appears in the MMI screen and I can control it from there. Not tried the CD player yet though!
