Right then,
Firstly, for all those unsure about remapping, DO IT! You will not regret it, and secondly, I would highly recommend AMD in Thurrock Essex.
If like me, you were unsure about a remap and concerned about some the of issues mentioned on this and other forums e.g. Poor running, damage to engine, reduced engine/clutch/car life and worst of all, lack of support, then you were probably pulling your hair out trying to decide. Also I wondered why the manufacturer didn't make the stage one standard?
After a lot of deliberation, I chose to go head with the stage one remap, reasoning that the manufacturer had to sell as many cars as possible and to do that, have to make it as attractive to as large as possible market. So fuel economy and more importantly emissions take a higher priority than outright performance also, can you imagine remapping every car!!!
So now I'm remapping, but how? Do I choose Revo, Unicorn developments, shark, Superchips Etc? And what about the tuner? Custom or generic map? Rolling road or not? Lots of choices and decision.
In the end I decided to go to someone who could provide me with everything and wasn't a million miles from me. I chose AMD in Essex because of their reputation, location, custom map and rolling road. ( They also support a BTCC car )
When the day arrived, I was crapping myself. All my doubts and fears were coming back however, after having all my concerns and doubts answered in a positive, informative and in a non condescending manor. I explained that I was after more torque than outright power and more mid range and for it not to drop off so quickly, also in wanted my DV changed to a DV+.I left my car in their hands.
I didn't want to pre empt what the car would be like in case i was disappointed.
A few hours later, I was back at reception having a summary of the remap explained to me, given a printout of the rolling road and assurance that if I had any problems however unlikely, to call them and they'd get me in.
So I sat in my now chipped car, key in the ignition and paused just before starting....I then turned the key.
It started! Phew, I put it into first, now for the drive...... And what a drive, I couldn't believe how good it felt, it performed exactly as I had asked for more torque, very little loss of boost between gear changes and power until redline, I was over the moon, I even managed to get the traction light to come on in 1st gear whilst pulling away from the Dartford Toll!!! It also pulled 6th like a proper gear and after I had calmed down, it still returned the same fuel economy.
So if you are thinking about a remap, DO IT! And go with any reputable tuner, I highly recommend AMD, and don't forget to tell them what you want but don't let price be the deciding factor. And if you look after the car e.g. Warming up/cooling down, you shouldn't have any issues with a Remap
