Aluminium Spacer On Suspension

Hi guys,

I have some bilstein B8s and some H&R springs and will be looking to fit them in the next couple of days.
For the front dampers and springs I have ordered from audi:
- Spring Disc
- Aluminium Spacer 'Distance Piece'
- Threaded Bush
- Bearing
- Strut Storage

I have had a look at a couple of MKIV Golf guides and they say not to bother with the aluminium spacer - for those of you who have replaced your suspension did you use it or leave it out?

I dont think my car had those fitted.
But im not 100% sure. it was 2 year ago now

Without the spacer it looks very close to the end of the threads.
.. may possibly prevent the bush from fully collapsing.

however without it, it should sit a few mm lower

Yes your right without the spacer the top bearing is sitting on the end of the thread - the only other thing I can think of is to get a slimmer spacer?

i have just replaced the bearings and the top mounts on my 2000 S3 APY and there was no spacer there....this is the first time ive seen one there actually. (i have changed the top mounts on Bora's and Golfs before).
Im sure that with the spacer on, you would struggle to get enough thread through the top of the housing to fasten the retaining plate/nut on.

Another tip - don't fit those dumbbells as it will ruin the handling.

Haha :weight_lift2: Today I fitted them without the spacer i saw that the old shocks didnt have one fitted but it showed up on ETOS originally so thats why I ordered them!
