All new S3

Nowt wrong getting the car you've always wanted....its just that you where roughly 3-4 years too late to Audi S3 ownership

Again in your opinion, externally the 8V is a lovely car, internally it’s rank the pop up mmi looks like it was an after thought and has been bettered by pretty much every car that came after it.

To be fair Guys - other than the higher purchase price, I did not find my RS3 much more expensive to run than my respective TTS and S5.

Fuel use was on par, tax not much different, insurance similar ... if anything it could be cost neutral or even better value than my S cars as it retained the highest value over time.

Not just my opinion the overall consensus on forums, and media reviews and the glide up screens where phased out by Audi model by model to save money as they are far more expensive to manufacture than a touch screen...Same reason the new A1's VC in the 8Y S3 is installed to save money and you do like using that word rank...lol

I’m not sure what cost has to do with my opinion that it’s better aesthetically, each to their own. If you can’t accept that someone has a difference in opinion to you then I don’t know what else I have to say to you. Odd stance.

In my experience, the people who are most vocal in their dislike of the 8Y on forums are 8V owners, which is not all that surprising based on how different the two interiors are. Since 8V owners are in the majority on Audi A3 forums, that explains the majority view. But you can bet that whilst investing millions in a new model, some of Audi’s money went on customer research, the result of which is that they are confident that the new design will be attractive to customers.

I would be interested to know the ages of the people who like the new design vs the people who don’t. My guess would be that the 8Y appeals to a younger demographic.

The magazine reviews that I have read, whilst noting a drop in quality - which is not unique to the A3 BTW, it’s a trend in this segment - are mostly favourable towards the new model. Then again, maybe we are all a little susceptible to confirmation bias.

It's not so much that the interior is different, it's the clear difference in quality that would be an issue for me.

I haven't had an S3 for almost 2 years now, and TBH I'm not in the market for either model. But if someone told me I had to buy one again, it would be the 8V all day long.

But the 8V isn’t an option if you’re buying new. If material quality is a key requirement for you then, as far as I can see, the only car that betters the A3 in this segment is the Series 1.

I didn’t say anything about buying new, I said if I was told I had to buy an S3 I would rather have a well looked after 8V instead of a brand new 8Y.

For me Audi have made too many compromises with the 8Y, and I really don’t like the styling either.

It’s academic anyway as I am not in the market for either. The only models I like in the current Audi generation are the RS7, the R8 and the TTS/TTRS. Anything else and I’ll pass thanks.

I hope people use their common sense and can see car manufacturers are running out of ideas.

I had a S3 8P and the interior layout on the 8Y is extremely similar even down to where the touch screen is placed. On whatever comes on after the 8Y I can guarantee they'll probably go back to some type media system located on top of the dash or in a similar position. Design and manufacturing is a cycle so what goes around comes back around eventually.

I think there are mate ... we just have slightly different views on where to spend the moolah. I may go that route myself next time though and add a touch of luxury to my motoring. Power is becoming irrelevant once you get to 300+ bhp in real terms that is enough for public roads.

I am very much a supporter of change, but it has to be an improvement.

There is nothing worse than change for the sake of change.

The 8V was very much an improvement over the previous generations, it was ergonomically better as was the quality.

Neither of these can be said of the 8V to 8Y evolution.

I agree with you mostly but unfortunately the 8V has been out since 2012 and if you don't move on by the next generation change comes round you'll have 15 year old technology and people will then say Audi are just lazy because they haven't moved with the times and they do have to start attracting the younger generation to move forwards as these people expect touch screens etc - No excuse for cheap plastics and penny pinching etc though

I don’t expect Audi to keep it the same, of course bring out a new product. But make it better than the previous one.

The cost cutting started with FL S3, replacing the S3 specific badging with S badging you get in any S line model. Audi were not “getting” that people who are buying the S models expect these things, they are looking for details like this way above your average A3, Q3, A5 etc S line buyer.

I totally agree with you and that penny pinching annoyed the hell out of me especially when I changed to my facelift model and suddenly had S on the seats etc - The worst one was the dashboard that had S3 on it but changed to S - However the S-Line didn't get that dash because they don't have the pointless boost gauge and the brochure right until the end said S3 on Dash and Brake Calipers!!

Unfortunately Audi will try to tell you they have made it better because touchscreen technology is better and more modern

I am also annoyed with the Virtual Cockpit Plus not standard or option on the standard S3 with the sportier dials yet you would get it on a 1.0 TFST Edition1 A3 - I don't understand their logic their - The sportier model should have the sports dials surely

No other member on here wanted the 8Y S3 Saloon more than myself until l sat in one and compared both identical variants of the 8v and 8y saloon side by side both in Daytona Grey by the way
I am not biased in anyway l like change if its for the better and yes l am in the market for a new car but it sadly won't be the 8Y S3 saloon the interior is devoid of option choices in the UK no interior design pack its either black or dark grey leather thats just the tip the 8Y iceberg what l am basically saying is Audi have messed up and its got nowt to do with what age you are either its accept it or move on elsewhere

People might be more acceptant of the penny pinching if there was actual investment in performance. It really is a face lift with downgraded interior.

The tech might look good but so many stories of continual errors in the 8Y, A6/7 tech reviews are really bad.

No doubt Audi will still shift cars but at some pint it will bite them, especially when the competition has closed the quality gap.

Reason for not going exclusive =Mexico Blue, if l went exclusive l would have to endure black leather and no interior design pack.....TT is a dark cabin no pano....so............enough of my car as we are going way off topic lol

Agree, BMW was behind them for a number of years but with their current generation BMW have surpassed them.

In my opinion BMW are now the benchmark in this price bracket.

wtf ... that was a quick turnaround jassy lad but great news :icon thumright:
You got a Dealer who could sort you one then.
So what colour have you gone for ?

Hi mate it was the 310 ps TTS that had been discontinued and a very kind member on here told me the 320ps engine would be available soon to order so l emailed DTD who then contacted their dealer, quickest car purchase ever and its in turbo Blue
The TTS interior packs are determined by the exterior colour and l wanted the satin blue interior design pack ie blue /air vents/center console/trim on the sides of seats looking forward to finding out what and if Audi have done anything to the ea888 engine same as in the G8R

ahhhh right nice one :icon thumright:
that's a great result then.
Wow 320 bhp in a TT should be epic - it will be a missile, with sublime handling to boot.
So you ok with turbo blue then - I've seen on a TT Sline and it does look smart I must say.
You had a light interior on your S3 hatch didn't you and yes it will give a nice contrast and lighten up the cabin.
So just the small matter of a few months wait now then ... you're officially back in the 'wait club' :sunglasses:

What other options do you have on your 'want' list?

Not a clue really
May lower my sights
I really like my A4 might just keep it
Or upgrade to a vorsprung a4 a5
Doing nothing is probably the best option till I see an rs3
Or maybe just wait another couple of years for the B10 see if that ticks a box
I’m old and confused
54 tomorrow and off to SEE if I want to pay £7k for eye surgery instead of another car
Lol

Ah yes totally agree
Blind with a fast car not good
With my eyes fixed and I finally have my 20/20 vision back , maybe!
Which isn’t that bad just hate wearing glasses
I will have work on my reaction times next
Don’t think there is an operation for that
I will have a look at other marques but nothing out there floats my boat bar Audi
But as we all know Audi has lost the plot on build material quality and still want more money for the product
No decisions yet though
I’m still in for the rs3 at this point but is diminishing the more I read on here
Oops

No point in rushing into something mate if it hadn't been a TT it might have been the G8R cracking looking hatchback but am happy with my choice the interior of the Vorsprung is leagues above the 8Y and G8R will miss my pano roof though lol leaving it till Monday to finalize spec and colour just to be sure sure

Slowly going off this rs3 purchase

Lol. Can't help you with reaction times I'm afraid. At least when you get 20/20 vision you should be able to make a better judgment on how the new RS3 looks in the flesh.:icon thumright:
Will that be the saloon or hatchback you are hoping for?
