according to my mechanic, the airconditioning compressor has failed on my 2000 S3.

any suggestions on where I can pick up a new or replacement compressor?

(and I'll have to airfreight to australia).

    Oz prices are rediculous ($1000)

    cheers

Sure someone off here or someone you know in the UK could have that posted to them and send it on to you fella?

    thats an option.

I'm interested in people's view if secondhand is ok, or is that a disaster and waste of money?

if so, know anyone who sells replacements?

well, I decided to replace the compressor with a new one, and buy local to avoid airfreight costs and potential warranty issues.

unfortunately the total cost of supply/fit is A$1500 (£920) including peripherals and testing

    you're mad, for you....

aircon on ebay delivered to oz = £100 max
    fitting = £150 max
recharge (if you need it) £50 max

mine all in is going to cost £100 all in to replace, pulley has started to squeak on it when it's not on! why do you need a new part on a 7+ year old car, there wont be any difference!

its going to be 38 deg C here on friday on its not even summer yet!!

aircon is probably the most important thing for day-to-day driving here, so its nice to know that its going to working efficiently.

we do get screwed here on labour rates, plus, for environmental reasons they have to be gased, dyed and tested by an authorised technician.

the new compressor itself was £500 (ish), compared to buying a secondhand unit for £1-200 delivered ex UK, so an extra £300ish, but if the secondhand unit was faulty, I'd be up for another double the installation rates.

    painful, but peace of mind
