Anyone recharged their Aircon themselves?

I saw some recharge Gas in Halfords as my aircon is not as cool as it used to be. In fact these days it's more heating that cooling we need.

I think this is the one I saw - Link

I looked at these but to be honest for £60-£70 you can get it done properly as there's more involved than just topping it up, it needs to be drained and refilled to correct pressure (a bit like an oil change isn't just topping up with new oil).
Apparently these products are going to be outlawed soon.

I would avoid those "self refill" kits...

When you have it done by a pro they do a lot more than refill the gas. They check how much is in the system currently, build the system up to pressure and check for leaks and also when they refill they use a gas that is mixed with all the required lubricants for the system.

Like andymac said, you get get it done for around £60-£70

mate id just take it to kwik fit and get it done there for £44. they dramitacally reduced my air con. was very impressed with the lads

i would get it done properly mate cheapest way isnt always the best

Having used one of those top up kits, it didn't solve the problem so I took it to my usual independent garage who did a sterling job for about £90.

All Kwik fit do is top it up (what a surprise!), take it to a proper A/C specialist.

Not according to my local kwik fit fitter.

I hear you cant get better.

You can't get better than a mediocre tyre franchise messing with your aircon?

i can only speak from my expereince and the kwik fit boys done a cracking job, dont get me wrong im sure a proper air con place would be able to get it even colder but still i aint complaining for 45notes

Spoke to my local Kwik Fit on Saturday about getting the missus Astra done. Questioned on what they do & the guy said they drain the system, vacuum test it for 30 mins checking for leaks & refil it up with fresh gas & lube mix. Im sure there's a mix bag of operators out there so if you've got a bunch of kids working & they seem to be hesitant when you speak to them i'd walk away. My local seems clued up so gonna let them have a bash.

Sounds like their doing it right....

Thanks for the advice guys - now I just need to find a specialist here in Cork.

My car was serviced by audi about 6 weeks ago and they rang me about halfway through and asked would I like a recharge of the aircon because it is recommended every 3 years at about £220 . I declined because my car has only done 12000 miles and i dont use the car very much so should be plenty of gas left in. As today the weather was lovely and I took my car out the aircon was not getting cold I was sweating in the car, Im thinking did audi delibratly emptied my aircon or I think I read somthing on here that when you take the front bumper off and replace it back there is something that needs to be connected back on ,I want to make sure of this before I go back to audi and lose my rag with them . cheers
