quick one hopefully. vag-com throws this:

00589 - Airbag Igniter 1; Passenger Side (N131)
32-00 - Resistance too High

Am i right in thinking this is the drivers side dash airbag. One of the yellow clips was disconnected so i reconnected it. but code still comes up after clearing.

so how can i test it? is it likely to be wiring or airbag? common faults?

thanks in advance

00589 - Airbag Igniter; Passenger Side (N131)

00589 - Airbag Igniter; Passenger Side (N131): Resistance too High

00589 - Airbag Igniter; Passenger Side (N131): Upper Limit Exceeded

00589 - Airbag Igniter; Driver side (N131): Short to positive

00589 - Airbag Igniter; Driver side (N131): Short to ground

Possible Symptoms

  • Airbag Warning Light active
Possible Causes

  • Wiring from/to Airbag Igniter Passenger Side (N131) faulty
  • Airbag Igniter Passenger Side (N131) faulty
Possible Solutions

  • Check Wiring from/to Airbag Igniter Passenger Side (N131)
  • Check Airbag Igniter Passenger Side (N131)
Special Notes

  • When "Short to positive" or "Short to ground" is found, DO NOT CLEAR THE DTC. This can cause the airbag to deploy. See repair manual for more information.

so is the ignitor actually the airbag?! i can get one of ebay for £35 but like to know if it is testeable first before throwing my money away. cheers

when ever iv had that code its been for my drivers side
and its always been the wireing plugs
i dont know it you can test then
unless you can do output test in measureing blocks in vcds

drivers side

interesting. the code even says pass side. I will check the drivers airbag aslo. I hear i can clean the contacts with a spray cleaner?

'resistance too high' implies the plug in my mind.

This is common on alot of cars. Had an auto electrician look at mine and he cut the connectors out and soldered and heat shrinked the wires, was throwing up all kinds of faults. Fixed it on mine though, although means you have to cut them if you remove seats.

cool. i will look into it soon. i think i know which one it is...
