I was looking at seeing if the SQ5 could take a K&N high performance air filter (vs Mann paper stock installed). I have seen that it can increase bhp and torque. Does it take more looking after as I only do around 8,000 miles per year and the stock are often replaced at a service, but do performance K&N need more regular looking after.

Is it worth getting it replaced and would this be beneficial if one of these was installed before stage 1 mapping.

Got the Same K&N Direct cone replacement Filter in my SQ5+ as I had in my A7-BiTdi & 3.0Tdi A6 , No difference what's so ever, If u do think there's a difference its down to the Placebo Effect..

    Marketing...

They can increase where there is a pipework or small air box restriction .

Then they apply 'Performance' to the whole range .

K&N aint going to say, Buy our filter they Look good and In Petrol Cars sound Good :) , So claiming small Mods Return Performance with it Fitted helps sell them....

Modern Engines Regulate Air Flo/Fuel Mix, If the Engine sense more Air Flow threw a Better Filter it Trims it back to what is Needed for the Fuel/Air Mix Set by the Car ECU, So unless your going to Remap Your Car/ECU on Rollers with it fitted its More Placebo Gains …

I notice no Difference on mine what's so ever...

If you decide to Buy one Geordie , there Real easy to Fit, And Easy cleaned in the Sink...

    All of the above^

Plus, you risk knackering your MAF with the oil from them.

Ferrari use paper filters. The best quality paper filters have lots of tightly packed folds to increase surface area.

Which a K&N would never have as much surface area .

No benefit but does have downsides. You won’t notice any power increase.

It’ll need cleaning, with a paper filter you just bin it and fit a new one.

Oiled filters are bad for cars with a Maf/afm (don’t know if sq5 has one)

I’d always stick with paper. Mann are a decent brand, go with those.

The 3.0 Diesels Have a MAF But the K&N is a Dry Filter so Safe for The MAF , Ave used mine for many thousands of Miles in My 3.0 A6,A7 Bitdi & now in my SQ5+ , When I 1st bought it 4 years ago it was for The Gains and Sound, Which were none, But its Easy to wash in the Sink and left to dry for a Few Hours.

Absolutely ridiculous to consider 1bhp over superior filtration .
