right guys. i bought myself a cheap a3 to take the engine out of and put in my mk1 golf... decided im not going down that route now, im just going to keep it as a daily and spend a bit of money on the engine.

however i have had a few companys saying that they cant remap it because its not drive by wire.

am i wasting money by trying to tune this engine? is it not very tunable or is it just these tuning companys not wanting the hastle of doing it?

so question is really. should i stop throwing money at it? and also what figures can AGU's go up to?

any info would be appreciated

You will struggle to find reputable companies that are willing to map it, not because it's wired throttle but because it is narrow band oldskool me3 ECU and generally a PITA to map... That being said, there are some companies out there that will map it, and some have seen good results. JBS and Unicorn Developments come to mind.

The amount of power you can get out of an AGU is only limited by the size of your bank balance... However being more realistic, with a k03s turbo (from later model A3) and a few other supporting mods you should see around 240/250 bhp, with a little more work and a k04 (from S3/TT/LCR) you will see around 280 without going to crazy and changing engine internals etc... This is all providing you have a healthy engine to start with!?

Loads of information about tuning k03 engines:
http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/thread...k03-k03s-agu-and-aum-engines-fwd-cars.191705/

A quick search will bring up plenty about k04 conversions...

You can use it on standalone ECU like DTA or emerald... there are quite a few threads discussing AGU tuning but nobody wants to touch the ME3.8 ecu they have as they are too much work

Advantage of going standalone is you can go MAF less too which is a godsend on the AGU...

<tuffty/>

the engine itself is great, but the ECU that controls it is pre historic and support for it has all but vanished now sadly.

haha thanks lads, put my mind at ease a bit.... after getting turned down for a basic map i thought "oh is this even going to be worth the hastle"

just booked the rest of the week off work so i can have a read of that thread! haha :p

not going for rediculous power.............famous last words
just going to start with the basic bolt on mods and map. i just wanted to know if it would be worth throwing parts at it with it being a pain to get mapped thats all.

thanks again lads :)

Read this, start to finish: http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/prawn-and-bigals-a3-track-car.109831/
@Prawn will teach you all you need to know (and more!) about making the most out of an AGU A3.

And this ! lol -

Also for a generic stage 1 map after your supporting mods check out -

Making sure your ecu numbers are correct

And chip tuning shop- http://www.chiptuningshop.co.uk/

Seems like the above took me 10 years to find out the hard way lol, after going to revo/ Auto specialists to be told 'we cant do it' etc,

Oh just noticed one of the links have been said lol, never saw the 'must do' bit,
