Hi everyone, I've just bought a Audi a4 2.0 tfsi (58k on the clock) a week ago now from a 2nd hand dealer, I've just discovered that it has excessive oil consumption (360 miles to 1L warning light). I'll be contacting Audi UK today to or my local Audi garage to go in for a oil consumption test which i know i will fail easy.
my main concern is that i may have to foot a bill for a stage 2 or 3 repair as the car didn't come with a full service history. who foots the bill? the 2nd hand car dealer or do I? do I have any rights to protect me on this kind of case? would it go down as wear and tear or as the 2nd hand dealer has sold me a car thats needing a possible 12k engine? I've been looking online all over but i can't find the answer anywhere.

Has anybody got any knowledge or first hand experience on what can be done or procedures please?
many thanks

If you got the car on HP or finance then you normally have a 14 day cooling off period. If you wanted to you could cancel the agreement.

Consumer rights act 2015. Get in touch with the Citizens advice bureau soon, don't hang about as the longer you wait the less chance you have. Try and get an email or letter from the dealer stating the problem so it is at least logged. You have 30 days to get your full refund from time of sale and 6 months for any faults. They are allowed a reasonable chance to fix it.

Do they have to give 6 month warranty by law? Only when I brought my car they said I only 3 months and made me sign a document stating that. Not that i'm moaning about the car but I tried to push them to give 6 months.

update:

cars going through a oil consumption test at the moment, its done about 180 miles now and its just about at minimum. cars booked to go back into audi tomorrow to fail it and move to the next stage. prior to all this, spoke to the audi tech, said new engine/rebuild will cost £5000, free if car has full history, but as its partial history i have to contribute 10% Ive contacted the garage that i bought the car from and they are going to settle the bill with audi.

so if there is anyone out there worried that are sort of in my situation, £500 to fix or replace a engine is not bad i think, or free if its full history.

these engines do go bang if you do ignore it, prior to all this i got a quote for a major service from a Vag specialist, explained i wudnt be booking in because of the situation, and he had said its funny you say that, we have a a4 in at the moment getting a new engine cos the owner just ignored it and just topped it up.

Sounds like a good result despite all the hassle. So long as you are happy hey.
