Advice please

Hi all

You may have seen my post recently regarding numerous issues I have had with my A3.

Whilst Vindis had my car their technician needed to to an overnight road test. I was told this means driving the car home and back again to try and replicate the fault(s).

Unfortunately for him I was tracking the car and this is what I found:

It seems he had gone home, picked up his friend/girlfriend in a village outside of town, travelled to Tesco to sit in a car park for a couple of hours. Went to McDonalds about 20 miles away for some food, sat in that carpark for 20 minutes. Then travelled back into town to sit in another car park for over an hour (ironically next to another McDonald’s). He then went to sit in the same Tesco car park he was at a few hours ago for over an hour, to then drop his friend/girlfriend off at home (and sit outside there for another hour) to then go home.

When I got my car back on Saturday their was a scratch on my car - they advised it was there when I took it in and they have a video (not seen it yet). The other problem with the cup holder, they have managed to lose the springy bit and the spring has fallen into the vehicle itself. The centre console now needs to removed (I declined the repair as I didn't want the centre console removing).

I have spoken to Vindis head office and he has been great. He offered to fix the scratch (regardless of who was at fault) and told my I could pick my dealership for the repair.

He is going to give me a call back but said he would like to offer me a gesture of goodwill, but I have to be honest I am not sure what is acceptable in this situation. I don't want to take the pee but ultimately someone has taken my car and driven it around the county without my consent, breaking my trust etc. Then when I get the car back its sill dirty (despite an obvious half hearted attempt to clean it on the inside), there is a scratch and they created a repair that didn't need repairing and gave me it back with a small hole in the centre console.

I would appreciate people's thought's.

Tricky one.
I think asking for a free service when it's due is not taking the pee.
They won't consider giving you cash or anything like that. Probably they will offer you something which they could easily do such as mentioned a service or maybe something like a set of rubber mats etc.?
Would be interesting to know what was said to the 'techie' who took your car for a jolly. lol

On the basis that the damage / issues get fixed, I’d be more interested in what happened to this guy too. Bordering on a disciplinary matter if he used a customers car for anything other than genuine road testing (it sounds like You have proof he did).

I would'nt want anyone to lose their job over a matter like this....irrelevant now as l think the OP has got a replacement model

To be fair mate. If he was the sort to take a customers car for a 'jolly' then it wouldn't surprise me he was the sort to 'rag' it. He clearly showed no respect for the customers car... Like you said though irrelevant now.:thumbs up:

Sure would be tough losing your job. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. He must have been aware of the consequences if he got found out??
He should be, I’m generally pretty black and white on stuff like this but in this current climate I’d rather people learn and grow. Father in law was made redundant during lockdown and it was horrible to see, luckily he then got a better job and a pay off, he was a lucky one.

I’m sorry but this would clearly be more than enough grounds to sack someone, taking a customers car on a number of jolly’s without their consent. If the employee is prepared to do this, I would have no trust in them whatsoever.

Just an update regarding this, long story short, the car was rejected, I now have another which has come with its own problems.

I suggested a free service plan, he agreed and put the money into my account (£530).

The gentleman who drove the car quit his job and walked out before they had an opportunity to start the investigation, he knew it was going to happen as they asked him what happened the day after the event, so before someone could make the investigation official (so to speak) he walked out. So although not sacked he is now without a job. It does sadden me and I did not want him to lose his job (and did tell Vindis that), unfortunately I cannot control someone else's decisions.

Says it all really, he knew he was in the wrong. By doing this he can now tell his potential new employer that he left his previous job rather than being sacked.
