Hello folks, first time posting in the detailing forum. I have acquired a B7 with S-line alloys, originally silver but the previous owner has sprayed a single layer of black paint over them, I removed one wheel yesterday to check the front coil spring and in doing so, the paint has flaked around the wheelnut holes.

My question is this, how would i go about stripping this thin layer of black paint off without damaging the lacquer/silver finish of the wheels (too much) Obviously the original is tougher than the black spray thats been added. Maybe something that will eat the black but not powerfull enough to go any further?

Many thanks guys.

Only way to take one layer off would be to rub back the black? Any stripping agent would go through to the metal

Ended up paint stripping the black off. Wet and drying the rims and rattle canning them. Looks good. Better than the nasty black. Thanks.
