in June my car got vandalised and went to An Audi approved bodyshop . Since then it's been back FIVE times with problems such as orange peel (which still isn't resolved ) tonight I notice a strange cloudy white patch on the roof above the windscreen where it was also sprayed . At first I thought it was condensation or a reflection, but I moved it out of the light and shone a torch on it and it's still there . Also the other day I notice a wavy line of lacquer and orange peel in the centre of the roof stretching back a foot or so from the windscreen. Seriously loosing my patience. Any idea what this mark is? It can't be wiped off I've tried

I'm a paint sprayer with other 20ys experience so need a bit more info but looks like a so called smart repair so can I ask what the original damage to the roof was i.e. Was it just a small scratch or dent etc

A massive rock was thrown at my windscreen , it dented the bonnet and the A pillar. The bonnet , roof at the front and both front wings were resprayed. The roof had a few marks where that white patch is . I still have orange peel under the passenger wing mirror , at the front of the wing and on the roof. I was told it was normal ( yeah right even tho the rest of the hasn't got any !)

Yeh I'd say that's a smart repair on the roof bunch of amateurs you can't do a smart repair on a roof and expect it to look any good I wouldn't even attempt it I would of kept the colour as small as possible then lacker the whole roof to seel it in nicely and the aerial would need to come out as well! they've charged your insurance company £3000 and cut corners on your car simple as that just because they are insurance/Audi approved doesn't mean they are any good in fact it makes them worse as it's all about money and they really couldn't give a f**k about the car. try to find a reputable body shop and get them to examine all the work they have done and list the faults and quote to put it right then get onto your insurance company and see what they've got to say. My rule is if I'm happy with the way the repairs look then the car gets released back to the customer I never let anything go out the door unless it's done right these big bodyshops let things go out knowing they ain't quite right as a lot of people don't know what to look for they allow for a certain amount of rework for example I know a bodyshop which send out 100 cars on a Friday expecting 30-40 to come back on a Monday if any less then it's money in the bank

That was my plan to get someone else to look at it . What is that white mark , can't really see it in day light.

I'm so fed up, also my gloss black bits such as the wing Mirrors and window surrounds have scuffs on them too. This wasn't me . The car is only 3 month out the factory

Yeh I bet you are mate I would be livid The white area is where they have just sprayed that particular area and not the whole roof trouble is now they will just machine polish it which will look ok for about a month then it will reappear with washing I bet you only just noticed it as a smart repair lasts about a month before it shrinks back and looks ****

Yes it was repaired in July. I've not noticed until now.this is also the first time I've noticed the roof looking strange , and the lacquer marks , it's like u said , just been sprayed in that area , there's a visible line ! I actually went back this morning about the roof lacquer marks (before I noticed the white mark, it was actually my mate that saw it!) and the guy in the body shop said it had 'sunk it happens sometimes, book it in for the week after '
Don't know what he meant by it had sunk

Shame your not local to Bristol as I'd help you resolve the problems we see so many dodgy repairs it's unbelievable
To get insurance/Audi approved is easy u just need to bung a few quid to the right people A local approved bodyshop has just admitted defeat with a friends car on a repair to a door which they attempted 4 times and still couldn't get it right they refused to put a new door on it so they have got the salesman to swap the car for new one. There is a certain amount of skill required to do this job and bosses don't want to pay the wages dealer hourly rate is £100 plus per hr staff paid on average £8-10 you can't blame the staff for not really giving a f**k Bmw offered me a job at £8.50 per hr I just laughed and walked out the interview

I really don't want it to go back there now . Maybe I should speak to my insurance company . Apart from the body work issues they also didn't put the rain sensor back properly or the wipers so the drivers one was hitting the A pillar !

Don't let them touch it they have had there chance take it somewhere else to get a second opinion if they were any good they would have never of attempted to blend the roof I wouldn't even advise that like I said a roof has got to be painted all over this mark you have will keep coming back even if they Polish it out again
He is right about the sinking but that wouldn't happen if they painted the whole roof not just a small area that's why it's sinking back.
Clear coats (lacker) continue to cure for a few days/weeks even after it's been baked in the oven and can sometimes lose shine or sink back especially if it's a cheap product that's been used

Name and shame this bodyshop so others can stay away from it they sound like a right bunch of c**ts can't even put wipers on correctly what ever next get on to your insurance company once you've got someone else to look at it tell them all the problems and hopefully they won't pay them and a lesson could be learnt
Best of luck pal Keep me posted

It will be fine and it all can be sorted by someone who knows what they are doing and takes a bit of pride in their work tell them about the experience you've had hopefully someone will look after you try a small or family run place they usually like to keep up a good reputation do plenty of research on bodyshops in your area you will find someone who knows what they are doing and will be only to glad to help you out
Oh and do not let the insurance tell you where to take it it's your car you can choose wherever you want and they have to foot the bill within reason obviously.

Surprised they didn't spray the whole roof, although as Mike says, they may have quoted to do it but not actually done it.

I had similarly placed damage to you once on my R32 (not quite as big of a dent though) wasn't a big scratch on the roof but they sprayed the whole roof and the majority of the side of the car - no orange peel either! I don't know a lot about spraying but I know that orange peel isn't natural, it may be present but a good body shop will either get a decent gun finish or will colour sand it to get rid of it!

Insurance company may ask you to go back to the body shop to give them chance to resolve it, as you say you already have and they haven't managed to sort it out, best to tell the insurance company if you haven't already and see what their stance is.

What company do you work for Mike? I've got a couple of chips/scratches that I've been meaning to get repaired for a while now. I've left it so long due to being worried about the quality of the finish (basically this whole thread). You definitely sound like the man that could help!

Sorry to jump in on this thread!

Hope you manage to get it sorted Wxm!!

Spoke to my claims handler today and she's arranging for an independent post repair inspection with hoopers engineers
