    Hi all,

My 2016 s7 was in for a rear bumper repair after someone bumped me and now I'm getting the warning that the ACC and Audi braking Guard are unavailable and also the side assist doesn't work.

This can't be a coincidence can it? Does anyone know what might be causing this and related to the back bumper? I'm going to go back to the garage about it but thought I'd check in case anyone had any advice in case it isn't anything to do with them

    Thanks

What you normally find is that one actual, fault can trigger a cascade of related faults, especially with driver assist components.

Directly behind the bumper are the radar sensors for the side assist system. It’s possible that a) They have left one or both disconnected or b) They removed the sensors to allow for painting or replacement of the original bumper. And the units now need aligning.

Was the work done by an Audi proved workshop?

Yeah was done by a fully approved workshop, did a good job of the repair otherwise! Didn't know they had to be aligned, guess I'll be giving them a call tomorrow, thanks for the help!

Not yet. Took it back to the garage they're going to order a new radar (it was working fine before!) And if that fails a new bumper as the guy said might not be meant to paint over it!

Did they put new bumper on it the first time or did they just repair it?
Audi state you can repaint a bumper where the radar is situated but you cant repair it as once you put Filler in the bumper it affects the radar as the Filler makes the Radio waves act differently. Any time a car with Rear Radars comes through my work its an instant new bumper As per following Audi repair methods for our approval.

Hopefully just a new radar and calibration and it will all be sorted for you tho :)

That's what it'll be then! Definitely had to use filler on it, surprised they didn't know that. Oh well, wait and see what happens. As I say glad I'm not paying for it!

    Thanks for the help guys

Gonna be honest, working on VAG cars myself im intrigued, if you have a story or any info about how that was the cause/how it was found i'd love to know! No worries if not.

Glad you got it fixed though! Must have been a pain to diagnose!

This aimed at me mate? Well I took it to a “VAG Specialist” and they had zero idea, wanted to change battery, send to Audi for updates, recalibrate various systems etc. I declined their dart board method of diagnosis and researched myself.
Currently my GPS signal was also 40 miles out.. found on some forum on some page it could be linked so went for that. And don’t ask me how, but it fixed it!

Wow, That's a good move on your part, would have saved you thousands! Is your car fitted with an SOS Function by any chance? almost all modules on these motors are interlinked so when one goes down it restricts others, small possibility it may have restricted functionality for a module the ACC system relies on in turn disabling it all.

very good detective work though by yourself, was your GPS visibly reading wrong on your MMI Sat Nav then?

It took Audi 6 attempts to find a Dead mirror switch on my A3, can't imagine how long they'd have been looking for the solution to your issues!

I believe Audi brake guard is linked to GPS signal, so it knows the road/terrain your driving on, hence it can predict things in advance, like approaching a bend too fast, or when to switch light beams over to LHD etc...

Dam clever these Germans :busted cop:

That'll do it then! Some say they're over designed, that is until said feature keeps them out of bother! Then its great German engineering!

it was the quote for thousands that spurred me on to fine a different route!! Not sure about the SOS option if I’m honest - not noticed one.
Yes the GPS put me circa 40 miles away, the Nav still worked, but always had me 40 miles away oddly.
@RAF_S7 sounds like the most logical explanation!
As soon as I fitted the new GPS it took the MMI all of 10 seconds to find the correct location and work perfectly.
