I noticed more of a difference in my C7 when in dynamic, especially the steering. All the modes seem quite similar to me in the C8.

Will post as soon as I hear, these alarms are going off 2-3 times a week now. Out I’d curiosity who in here has the HD matrix lights?

Following this myself, have a A6 Avant 2019 S Line 40 TDi with just over 100 miles on it, Saturday pulled away and got a error code that the central locking was faulty (Drive away auto locking) left while shopping came back and started it and error had gone and the drive away auto locking was ok, today been out for a drive and have now got error messages: Adaptive headlight, Main beam assist, Audi pre sense, lane departure unavailable, quick read of the manual and went out and cleaned the windscreen in front of the camera and all the sensors (not that they were dirty) started the car and all the error messages have gone (cleaning screen and sensors imo had no bearing on this) with the exception of a white circle with a car in it and a exclamation mark which apparently is something to do with the pre sense, going to visit the dealer tomorrow though waiting on a call back from the salesman.

I had an A6 as a loaner and found that if condensation builds up between the windscreen and the camera the adaptive headlight error message will come up. Clearing the condensation and restaring the car got rid of the message. I imagine the other errors are linked as they may utlise the same camera.

Just curious if it’s just cars with HD lights that are getting the alarms

Been to the dealer this morning and apparently it's normal it's down to the weather (heavy rain as previously mentioned) or condensation on the camera or sensors as long as you are only getting the 'restricted or unavailable' message it will clear itself, apparently there are heaters in the front sensors as well.

    Lets see!

I get it in all weather day and night. And randomly on a journey. 2 dealers have told me that it’s a known issue and Audi are working on a fix. They say to you it’s normal but the main beam assist error stops the auto light function, and renders matrix lights redundant, which the car is designed to do which tells me that it’s faulty and not normal.

    Hi all,
A few weeks ago I was driving my brand new A6 C8 when all of a sudden all of the warning symbols started blinking like Christmas tree lights on my dash board. Basically warning messages all connected with the car's forward sensors: pre-sense error, lane assist error etc. etc. I parked up, restarted the car, and then everything went back to normal and the warnings all disappeared. The next day the same warnings returned. I read through the car manual, cleaned all the sensors thoroughly, and then restarted the car - the warnings still returned. Since then, the warnings all flash up on approximately 50% of the my drives, with the other 50% of the drives being totally fine.
Reading through all the messages suggests that this is a fairly common occurrence. My question is: in your experience, does this type of problem resolve itself, or does it require a proper inspection by Audi?
    Thanks!

Common, maybe not, but certainly not unheard of. My own car has settled down of late and (maybe becuse it is being used less) I have not encountered the issues for a while now. Apparently there is a software update to address, my car had one last April (2019) but it dod not fix it completley and there has been another one since. On my car the issue seems to occur mainly around if the car is switched off for a short period (maybe less thna 5 mins) and then restarted. To get the software update (assuming it applies to your car) then you will need a trip to the dealer

Thanks for your response. I will look into getting the software updated when I next take the car for servicing (if not before, if the problem doesn't seem to be resolving itself). You have raised a very interesting point. I've just realised that this error does sometimes occur when the car has been running for a short period before being switched off. Other than that, I think the C8 model is pretty brilliant and am enjoying the drive!

I'm getting the faulty pre-sense, lane departure error warning etc 2-3 times each month. However the warning goes away after i leave the car switched off for 10+ minutes. Something I've gotten used to so personally not a big deal for me.

Sometimes cars can be too intelligent for their own good. I read something that suggested that more and more car repairs are due to faulty electronics and technology as opposed to mechanical issues. I have to say that when the pre-sense and lane departure tech work they've mostly been amazing (apart from random times when you need to wrestle with the steering wheel because the car thinks you're going into the wrong lane and is trying to pull you back).

Well fingers crossed this new update that’s getting talked about addresses these issues. Hopefully now garages are opening up next week we may get some calls to come in.

I very much doubt you will get a call to bring it in. Much more likely it will be done as part of the normal “check for software updates” process next time the car is at the garage. Only other way would be to book it on for them to investigate the fault, once you know for certain the update is available

I find that if I stop the engine for a very short time (I.e. less than 5 minutes), I get all the errors upon restart of the engine.

My car was in for service just before lockdown and I asked about it and there’s still no fix or even an ETA.

It’s a bit of a first world problem but still very annoying!

Hi Dave hope your keeping safe and well, I find a huge difference to the drive when I switch from eco to sport. found the eco mode to be very sluggish in general, I leave the car in sports mode now all the time and its still returning 50plus mpg. haven't been on much of late as I changed operating systems on my Mac and could not remember my password for the Audi forum to log in again

Thanks everyone. I've experienced the sensor failures since purchase and after two 'software updates' there is no change. The news today is that AUDI Factory have acknowledged the following, "Fault can occur after start under certain conditions. Control unit restarts - functions all fully restored after a short time" Carried out Campaign 91x4 (assumed the latest software update).

    I'm pretty exasperated.
    • First that the fault is being waved off as inconsequential while my family's safety is compromised.
    • Second, that, 'certain conditions' is not defined. If they were, then I and you could either work to avoid them, or understand what to complain about.
As for resetting, "after a short time" - I am certain many of you will know it doesn't tend to reset before stopping a while and in early cases, even needing to lock the car and carry the key 20 meters away to simulate parking. It is not acceptable. We should raise a "Class Action" to force AUDI to either compensate us, or be Ordered to rectify the issue in all models. Of course we can't but fail to organise and the costs of legal representation is often prohibitive once the suits and wigs get wind of, 'class action' and fighting AUDI's well-prepared suits. Oh, well. Back to making a complaint, I guess. That and bending over to AUDI. Some Warranty, eh?

Unbelievable, for car over £50K on the road to have this issues. You should all push forward and get some compensations in any form from Audi, extra warranty, money back etc. I did once had some issues few year ago which could not be sorted by the local dealer (they refused to do it), I wrote a complain email to the Audi CEO of UK, in that time it was a german guy, and the problem was sorted straight away. One of the assistance of the CEO contact me in couple days. You should write an email to the UK Audi CEO, praise the car also but say that this is unacceptable for such a brand.

Mines booked in for the 24th of August, I send an email to the dealer complaining of the faults which is ruining the car. Nothing will come of it though as it’s been in before, they will run diagnostics tell me they can’t see anything and I’ll be on my way.

    Hi,

I've had my A6 for a year and a half, from the start it does the 'Pre Sense' and 'main beam assist' fault which happens if you switch the ignition off and restart the car within a few minutes.

In February I had 'transmittion failure, technician required' and the car wouldn't start. I called out Audi assist and they told me a software update is required but it's not due for another couple of months. After anther occurrence of the camera failure I booked the car in to the local dealers to get this software update done but they can't tell me if the update is available until they plug the car in. Sounds like bull to me but hey ho, its booked in for this Wednesday.

Has anyone had this update done? is there an update available yet?

Aside the other problems, my air con has now packed in so they are having a look at that too when the car is with them this week. I don't think I have ever had a more unreliable car!

The update has been done. Apparently the update couldn’t be done until the MMI update had been done? I’ll see if it has worked over the next few weeks...

the MMI update has now given me another icon on the nav screen, a shield with a pin next to it, I don’t know what that’s for?

the car was in to have the air con looked at also as it was blowing out cool air, not warm. Apparently there is no leaks in the system and it’s working fine now after regassing it and charging me £159! I’ve had cars with A/C for as long as I can remember and never had to re-gas any one them, certainly not one less than 2 years old.

Software update to stop faults occurring with the front facing camera. It caused a few issues where the car wouldn’t start, I’d get a ‘transmission fault’ message. If I re-started the car within a few minutes after driving the front camera fails and I get a load of warnings.

    I get messages like this:

Just dropped the car off, and I was told it was a software recall, it will only flag up if the chassis number is put in the system so if anyone is still having issues with the errors then call and ask them to check against your chassis number.

So far, since the software updates I’ve not had any camera faults but the MMI/Nav update doesn’t seem to have improved anything, it still takes ages to start up and load previous destinations, etc.

They are happening more frequent now. I’ve raised a compliant with Audi U.K. the dealer wants to diagnose the car again. Dealer said there is a tech note from Audi and he said if the error codes match then there’s nothing much he can do. He read they if the camera view is restricted for 77 seconds or more it will alarm, and that could be rain that does it. I said that I need the presence more than ever in the rain and your telling me it can deactivate lol. I tested the 77 second rule by covering the camera with a thick black bag and no alarms appeared in the 6 minutes I filmed it. Something does not add up, he didn’t respond when I told him to be prepared to sell my car as I’ll be leaving it there. We will have to see what happens next week.

I have been chasing a resolution to these issues and I’m waiting to hear this week from VW finance what that will be. I had a call last week and my case worker said the dealer was looking into a swap where I’d get my deposit back to use on another car. I’ll believe it when I see it mind.

I've been seeing a lot of posts from people saying that there's been issues with the car, from the car moving sluggish to the several updates needed to be done, to the infotainment system acting and not to mention the rattling on the dashboard. Hopefully all of these issues gets resolved sooner rather than later otherwise there's gonna be a whole heap of A6s that no one will want to be as expensive as it is.

My A6 C8 avant is currently in for several issues including the pre sense/ active lights error messages after a quick stop/ start. Told that the software update didn’t work so now waiting for a new control module to be shipped from Germany.

What car are you getting? Also how many software updates does this C8 need for it to be working properly. Surely audi should have done all of this before releasing the cars to the customers.

Rightly or wrongly another A6 this time a My20 built in September. My I loved the car apart from the alarms and I can’t afford anything of equal size or bigger like a Q7, if I wanted a new build from factory I’d be looking at May time which Audi finance didn’t want to wait for as they were funding the swap.
