Back in Feb I took on my father in law's 2013/62 a6 3.0tdi Multitronic sline avant after he got a new 3.0 Quattro sline avant.
It's the Fwd Multitronic 200bhp, 400nm power train. For the most part does what it's supposed to do... Effortless, train-like, seamlessly smooth acceleration from 0 to ...mph. However..... Ever since new, this car has exhibited three problems that I can't live with. My father in law did report first two to Teesside Audi where he got the car from and they basically dismissed the complaint, saying all was normal / in-spec.
1. Every so often, pulling away from standstill with medium throttle, you get an annoying jerk or jolt. I assume as the forward clutch pack takes up drive. Very light throttle (as if taking up the slack gently) and, curiously, full-throttle launches produce nice smooth take up of drive. My father in law wasn't so bothered about this one but it ruins the car for me and I find myself having to do either be feather light or lead-footed on the pedal, as conditions allow, to deal with it.
2. When doing parking type maneouvers on a slight upward grade and come off the throttle or foot brake (as you try to hold car stationary), there is a lack of 'creep force' (initially) that means you get roll-back of about 20-50cm. A second or so after releasing the throttle, or the foot brake, the clutch pack seems to respond and 'catches' the car and you eventually start creeping forward. It is awful. It's easy to hit the car behind or hurt someone who happens to be walking behind the car...imagine like when pulling out of a roadside space, where the road has a decent camber...you're holding it on the foot brake, see your gap to come out, as you come off the brake and moving your foot towards throttle...car starts rolling back!
3. In reverse, car needs a lot of engine revs before it will move. Recently this seems to have got a little better though. This one not a big issue in itself.
I took the car myself to Teesside Audi just after taking it on, just 1 month out of warranty. they agreed to take a look for free and sent me out with their 'multitronic specialist' and service manager in the car. They concluded it was 'no fault found'. I said I disagreed. They agreed to run the Multitronic clutch cal routine in the workshop. I then drove away and sadly no Improvement. On the roll-back they told me (and my father in law previously) that the solution is to use the automatic park-brake function. This does solve it, but the problem is you have to remember to press it on every drive :-(
We had a 2008/57 A6 C6 2.0tdi sline avant Multitronic before this and even at 145k miles it still worked seamlessly smooth with none of the above problems. Was a great car apart from the crap ride quality. I just can't 'bond' with this c7 with this behaviour. I'm wanting to know if all later multitronic exhibit the above, or is it something confined to the euroV 3.0 tdi Multitronic powertrain perhaps? Or a fault with my car?
Anyone else got a 3.0 Multitronic doing similar? Found any solutions? Have I got a case to appeal to Audi for this to be fixed under policy given that the problems were reported within warranty period and dismissed by Teesside Audi? As an engineer working for an automotive tier1 on ECUs, electrics, systems...my gut feeling is that this car may have a 'sticky' electro hydraulic actuation of the forward clutch. Anyone heard of similar problems, know a solution?
