A6 Avant 2.7 TDI Le Mans stalling issue

Hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this issue: 2008 A6 Avant 2.7 TDI Le Mans, been driving perfectly, no issues at all. Got in the car this morning and every time I let the clutch out the engine stalls. No, not my bad driving....

It's not mechanical - the gears change easily and you can feel the clutch bite, but as it bites, the engine shuts down, just like it's being turned off. If you're really careful you can keep the car moving just by slipping the clutch a little, but as soon as it bites properly the engine just shuts down.

The engine starts and revs freely. No fault codes show up and no warning lights on. No funny noises or sudden jerk, just a straightforward engine shut down. If anyone could shed some light on this I'd be very grateful. Thanks!

What the mileage on it, I read on a forum somewhere of a similar fault that was due to the intake being so full of carbon and crap it was suffocating the car and when the clutch was biting without giving it revs it would stall.

Only internet guesses but all I can think of is:- 1) A issue with the clutch safety switch or 2) Some sort of major fault with the clutch release/thrust bearing ?

Thanks very much for the comments, we've carried on trying to isolate the fault and noticed that it's motion that triggers the stall. If the car is running, in neutral and parked, simply rocking the car causes it to stall, so it definitely stalls in response to the car moving - it appears like it's nothing to do with the clutch. I managed a brief chat with an Audi technician, who suggested the power supply relay could be faulty, so going to go down that road first.
