I'm currently driving a B8 A4 2.0 TDi Saloon 170PS and because I don't need a 5 door at the moment I'm looking at swapping to an A5 coupe. My budget can stretch to £30k but just not sure which engine...

S5
I'd love an S5 but I do around 12,000 miles a year and although I'm happy to pay the fuel bill it just seems a waste to use it for commuting to work, unless I consider a second £500 Nissan Micra for that job. I've heard real life mpg is around 20-25 mpg.

2.0TFSI 225PS
At first this was an interesting proposition, a best of both worlds solution to my problem. A bit of speed with a bit of economy. But they seem to be rare and don't have a huge amount more power than the 2.0TDi 177PS. Audi quote 42mpg but I'm guessing it might end up nearer 30-35 mpg.

2.0TDi 177PS
This is the safest option but then also the most boring! Audi quote 53mpg but I'm guessing real world would be 45-50mpg.

I'd be interested to hear what your real world MPG figures are.

No 3.0TDi choice?

240ps Quattro and I return around 34-36 mpg on around 18000 miles per year, 70/30 motorway.
I could get probably that up to 42 if I wanted to but prefer to drive more enjoyably. Plus thats stage 1 remapped so around 270-290bhp.

And I love it, so much better to drive than my 2.0TDi 170bhp is. It just doesn't feel like a diesel.

2.0 TDi 177 Quattro I get 40.9mpg overall and up to 45mpg in the real world

I'm getting roughly 28mpg in my 1.8 TFSI which seems really low (I don't exactly rag it everywhere)

Each to their own but I'm not a huge fan of performance diesels. I had a B7 3.0TDi and found it pretty boring. Yes there's a shed load of torque and it was quick, but it was a heavy lump that felt more of a cruiser.

Geoff what year is that? Pre-facelift?

2008 S5
i only live 2 miles from work so i cannot get above 18mpg
on a run 20-23?
i done a 600 mile round trip to cornwall last year and motorway driving i struggled to get 26mpg
but the point is.. god is it fun ;)

I had a S4 2012 , Same Engine as S5 2012 , got around 28mpg on long steady runs and 18mpg around town.... The V6T (Supercharged) is a great engine and highly tuneable for Rs4 & 5 beating performance

My 2.0tdi 177 A5 coupe manual gets 47mpg easy enough and only £30 road tax. Gets 55mpg on a steady A road in heavy traffic stuck at 50pmh....wondering how much of a hit I'm going to see on this when I get my 2.0 tdi Quattro S-Stronic next week!

3.0tdi, 306hp/525lbft torque and 35-42mpg round doors and about 42-50mpg on motorways. Standard S5s are amusingly surprised

No its a Dec 2014 Black Edition (not plus) so pretty current. Currently 5.5K on the clock and averaged 40.9 to date.
Can get up to 45mpg on a run and we shall see whilst going up to Audi Stoke today!.

After almost a year and 25000miles I've averaged about 22mpg on my RS5. I'm not sure if I am proud or ashamed!
